This article will show you how to install an Android app from an APK file using a Windows PC.

Part 1 of 2: Allow APK Installation

1. 1 Go to Android Settings by tapping in the application menu.
2. 2 Scroll down and tap Safety.
3. 3 Move the "Unknown sources" slider to the position . This switch can be found in the Device Administration section. As long as it remains enabled, the device will be allowed to install apps from APK files.

Part 2 of 2: Installing the app from the APK

1. 1 Download the APK file to your computer. Save it to your desktop or any other folder on your computer.
2. 2 Connect Android to PC with USB cable. If you don't have the cable that came with Android, use any other compatible cable.
3. 3 Tap the notification Connecting to a USB storage device on Android. A list of options will appear.
4. 4 Tap File transfer on Android.
5. 5 Find the APK file on your computer. To do this, open the folder where you downloaded the file.
6. 6 Right click on the APK file.
7. 7 Click on send.
8. 8 Select your Android device at the bottom of the list. The name of the manufacturer and model of the device will also be indicated here. The APK file will be sent to Android.
9. 9 Open the Android File Manager. Open the Applications menu and find the My Files, Files, or File Browser application there.
   • If you can't find the file manager, tap the Downloads app in the Apps menu, tap ☰, then select the directory you want.
   • If you don't have any of these options, download a free file manager from the Play Store such as ES Explorer.
10. 10 Find the APK file. If an external SD card is connected to Android, it should be listed under External Storage.
11. 11 Tap the APK file. A message will appear on the screen asking if you really want to install the file.
12. 12 Tap Install in the lower right corner of the screen. The application will be installed on Android. When the installation is complete, a confirmation message appears.
13. 13 Tap Ready. The new application is now ready to use.
