- Use a rag or old towel that you don't mind getting dirty, as the permanent marker will stain the fabric.
Method 2 of 3: Applying oils and creams
1 Wipe off the stain with coconut oil. Before using coconut oil, wash your skin with warm water and a little soap and pat dry. Dab some coconut oil with your hands on the skin stained with the marker. Rub the oil into the stain with your fingers or a paper towel until the marker marks are completely gone.
2 Use a little sunscreen. Cover the highlighter stain with a thick layer of sunscreen, then rub it into the skin using circular motions with your fingertips. Continue adding and rubbing in until the marker ink dissolves. Rinse off any residual sunscreen and ink with warm water.
- Permanent marker stains can be removed with both creamy and spray-on sunscreens.
3 Rub baby oil or baby lotion into the stain. Baby oil and baby lotion are mild yet powerful enough cleansers to effectively remove permanent marker marks. To use them, apply oil or lotion to a paper towel, then blot and rub the marker stain with it. Then wash your skin with warm water to remove any residual ink and excess oil or lotion.
4 Use shaving cream. To use shaving cream, apply generously to stained skin. Then use your fingers or a paper towel to rub the shaving cream into the stain. Add more cream if necessary. Continue rubbing in the cream until you've wiped the ink off your skin, and then wash it off with warm water.
Method 3 of 3: Other Methods to Remove Permanent Marker Traces
1 Wipe off the marks from the marker with baby wipes. To remove permanent marker stains from the skin with baby wet wipes, simply grab a tissue and rub it over the skin until the ink dissolves, then rinse the area with warm water. Try to use baby wipes rather than household cleaning wipes, as these will be more gentle on your skin.
2 Use makeup remover or wipes. To use liquid makeup remover, apply a small amount to a paper towel or tissue and then rub the stained skin. If you have used makeup remover wipes, simply rub and use them to remove the highlighter stain.
3 Wipe off the stain with white, creamy toothpaste. To erase permanent marker marks from your skin with toothpaste, you need to use a white creamy paste, as gel-type toothpaste will not work as well. Turn on warm water and dampen the stained skin, then apply a thick layer of toothpaste to it. Leave the paste on for 1-2 minutes, then rub it into the skin with your fingertips or a cloth. Rub the stain until the ink dissolves, then rinse off the toothpaste with lukewarm water.
4 Treat the marker stain with butter. Take some butter and brush it on the skin stained with marker. Leave the oil on for 2-3 minutes and then rub it into the skin with a cloth. Continue rubbing the stain until the ink is completely dissolved, and then wash off any residual oil and ink with hot water and soap.
5 Use nail polish remover or acetone. Although not technically a skin product, nail polish remover and acetone can be used to safely remove permanent marker from the skin. Unfortunately, nail polish remover evaporates very quickly, so it may need to be applied to the stain many times. Dampen a cotton ball or cloth with a little nail polish remover or acetone and rub the stained skin. Continue adding the product and rubbing the stain until it disappears. Then rinse your skin with warm water and pat dry.
Tips
- Always try to remove traces of permanent marker with skin-friendly products first before moving on to other household products.
- Be sure to use a moisturizer after using the methods listed in this article, as some of them can dry out your skin.
Warnings
- Be sure to be careful when using rubbing alcohol, nail polish remover, or hairspray near open flames, as these are extremely flammable.
