1 Take measurements. The easiest way to find out how much fabric you will need is to bring pajamas or sweatpants to a fabric store.
  • 2 Go to a fabric store to find the material you want. We recommend lightweight cotton or polyester. Ask the seller about discounts and sales; there may be the same material on sale as you have chosen, but at a reduced price.
  • 3 Prepare everything you need, including matching thread, pattern paper, pencil or pen, pins, and an elastic band for your belt about a centimeter wide.
  • Method 2 of 5: Make a pattern

    1. 1 Fold the pants over and place them on the paper. Fold the pants in half lengthways and straighten them as much as possible to get the correct size.
    2. 2 Trace the pants on the paper with a pen or pencil. Step back from the contour by about a centimeter to leave an increase in the seams.
    3. 3 Cut out the pattern with sharp scissors. There should be no wrinkled edges on it.
    4. 4 Transfer the outline to the fabric to form the front and back of the pants. Use a special pencil for the fabric.
    5. 5 Repeat the same step (outline an outline) on another piece of fabric to make two paths.

Method 3 of 5: Cut and Sew the Pants

    1. 1 Fold the legs together to form two sides of the leg (the pants will repeat the finished ones, but not sewn, but folded). Fold up exactly and pin with pins.
    2. 2 Sew the two sides of the fabric with fine stitches using a sewing machine or needle and thread.
      • Make sure the right side of the patterned fabric is inside. Do not sew the top, where the elastic will be later, and the bottom of the legs.
    3. 3 Fold the top of the pants down to the height of the elastic (about one centimeter). Sew with a horizontal seam around the waist and leave a small hole in the side to pull in the elastic.
    4. 4 Turn one leg inside out and insert into the other. Line up the side seams and pin both sides to crotch level.
    5. 5 Sew along the crotch line. Take one leg out of the other and turn the pants inside out (they will now start to look like real pants).

    Method 4 of 5: Make a Belt

    1. 1 Prepare room for the elastic by bending the top of the fabric about 1.25 cm and ironing it.
      • Fold the fabric back about an inch (2.5 cm) and iron.
      • Pin it all along the waist, leaving about 7.5 cm holes on each side so you can pull in the elastic.
    2. 2 Sew up the pinned seam. Remove pins as you sew. Stop in front of the hole.
    3. 3 Cut the elastic that is one centimeter wide and long enough to wrap around your waist. Add 8-10 cm for belay.
      • Attach a large safety pin to one end of the elastic. It will help you thread the elastic into the waistband.
    4. 4 Gather the pants so that the holes meet.
      • Pull the elastic with a pin forward so that it traces a circle inside the belt and exits at the other end.
      • Sew the ends together and cut off the excess elastic. Sew the belt holes together.
    5. 5 Finish the job by hemming the bottom of the pants. Fold up the bottom edge inward of the leg to the desired length. Pin and sew.

    Method 5 of 5: Tips

    • When buying fabric, measure a little more than necessary so that there is no room for error.
    • Loose pajama pants are more comfortable than tight-fitting ones.

    Warnings

    • Be careful when working with sharp objects such as scissors and needles, and especially when working with a sewing machine. Make sure there is an adult nearby to help if needed.
