The world of Harry Potter is the perfect party theme. Food, games, entertainment, costumes - everything is already thought out for you. Just follow this little guide and your party will go smoothly. Everyone will have a great time!

Steps

Method 1 of 6: Planning a Party

  1. 1 Ask your parents if you can have a party. Most likely they will like this idea - everyone will have fun. In addition, you have an instruction (this article), which contains all the information you need to hold a party.
  2. 2 Make a guest list. It is best to invite people who know a lot about the world of Harry Potter.
  3. 3 Make invitations themed about Harry Potter. Here are some possible options:
    • Idea number 1: Invite your friends to Hogwarts by sending them an official invitation in a large homemade envelope with a red wax seal. Write the invitation in green ink on white paper, paint it with cold coffee or tea to make it look old (you can also paint the paper before writing on it and dry it well). When the paper is dry, roll it up. Tie up the invitation with a red ribbon or seal with red wax. To make the invitation even more original, ask a parent to make a wax seal with the letter X (the first letter in the word "Hogwarts").
    • Idea number 2: print the paper ties of the Hogwarts houses and write invitations to them. You can also send guests white paper ties in large envelopes and attach a note to each one telling them to paint the tie in the colors of their favorite house and wear it to the party.
    • Idea number 3: Create an invitation on your computer. Place the coat of arms of Hogwarts in the upper right corner of the letter, where the address is usually written in English letters. The coat of arms can be found on the Internet by typing "the coat of arms of Hogwarts" in a search engine. Write an official invitation below and then print.
    • Idea number 4: Send your friends invitation letters to Hogwarts for the OWL Exam End Party.Replace your friend's real name with the name of their favorite Harry Potter character (for example, Dear Luna). Do not forget that you should have an equal number of students in each department. Then print pictures of owls and glue them on the invitations.
  4. 4 Complete the information in the invitation. In addition to information about the date, time and place of the party, you can additionally:
    • ask guests to come in the costume of their favorite character from "Harry Potter" (Harry, Ron, Hermione, and so on);
    • ask guests to bring magic wands with them;
    • point out that at the start of the party, everyone gets 20 points for their house. Before doing this, make sure all guests understand what House Points are.
    • Idea number 5: Send your friends Hogwarts acceptance letter-style invitations by email. It's very simple: open the form to create a letter, add pictures and information about the party and click "Submit". This kind of invitation is very easy to make, and if you are inviting a small number of people and do not want to upset anyone, then this is the best option. Just in case, ask your friends to check their emails - so your invitation will definitely be noticed.

Method 2 of 6: Party Preparation

  1. 1 The place where the party will take place should be clean and tidy so that it is easy to decorate and that nothing interferes with the flow of the party.
  2. 2 Map your home. If you live in a private house or are throwing a party in the country, do not forget to mark your yard or garden on the map. In this case, do not write the real names of the rooms, but replace them with similar locations of Hogwarts.
    • For example, label your yard or garden as "Hogwarts neighborhoods." To captivate guests, you can play the search for the Philosopher's Stone or another similar game on this card.
  3. 3 Decorate your home or apartment. Decorating isn't essential to a good Harry Potter party, but if your party is about a particular book or movie, decorating can help create the right atmosphere. Homemade posters, paintings hanging on the walls of Hogwarts, banners in house colors are just a few of the options for decorating a party venue.
    • If your parents don't mind, stick stars on the ceiling - then the room will look like the Great Hall.
  4. 4 Prepare small gift bags for guests. You can do it like this:
    • What to pack: At the end of the party, set up a “gift hunt” - give guests a list of items and invite them to find them. Found items can be taken with you. If you live in a private house and you have your own yard, arrange such a "hunt" there. The following items can be hidden:
    • 2 chocolate gold coins;
    • 2 Harry Potter Trading Cards
    • 2 icons with the theme of Harry Potter;
    • 1 small toy dragon.
  5. 5 Pick up music. Prepare your music playing device and create playlists. Play Harry Potter-related songs at the party to create the atmosphere you want. Bands like Swish and Flick, Draco and the Malfoys and The Parselmouths are great.

Method 3 of 6: Preparing Party Meals

  1. 1 Choose food for the party. Any food mentioned in the Harry Potter books will do, as well as any other food you think is related to the theme of the party. The food for a Harry Potter-themed party is very easy to pick up. Just pick a food or drink that you and your guests will enjoy and come up with a Harry Potter-related name for it. The following dishes are good for a party:
    • Molasses pie. This dish is directly related to the world of Harry Potter, because Hagrid has treated Harry to this cake several times.
    • Baked potato. Oven baked and fried potatoes and mashed potatoes are also great - they are eaten at Hogwarts at a feast to celebrate the start of the new school year.
    • Pumpkin juice. You can just buy orange juice or learn how to make pumpkin juice yourself. It will be a good addition to any party.
    • Chocolate frogs. Treat guests to frog-shaped chocolate. You can make your own frogs by filling molds of the appropriate shape with melted chocolate, or buy ready-made chocolate frogs. Such frogs are sold in online stores of goods based on Harry Potter, as well as in large bookstores (for example, in the stores of the Chitai-Gorod and Respublika chains).
    • Pudding. According to Luna Lovegood, no party is complete without pudding. This means that it should be at your party too!
    • Creamy beer. There are many recipes for making butter beer on the internet. The most common option is to microwave some butter and caramel syrup for a minute and then pour over the cream baking soda.
    • Dragee Bertie Botts. Such pills can be bought in the OZON online store, as well as in online stores of goods around the world of Harry Potter and large bookstores (for example, in the stores of the Chitai-Gorod and Respublika chains). A cheaper option is a very similar Jelly Belly dragee, which is sold even in the Utkonos online store.
  2. 2 Prepare party food. Here are some more simple meals you can prepare at home:
    • Strawberry drinks: All you need is strawberry and strawberry-flavored soda (or strawberry juice mixed with soda). Cut strawberries into small pieces, pour them into a glass, top with a little strawberry soda and thin as needed. Add strawberry ice cream to the drink for a dessert.
    • Magic sticks with sparks: It's quite simple - they are just ordinary bread sticks. If you want them to be sparkling, buy or bake bread sticks with sesame seeds or poppy seeds.
    • Pizza Faces: If you love mini pizzas, you and your friends will love this treat.
      • Cut mugs out of the dough, sprinkle with cheese, brush with olive oil and garnish with chopped tomatoes and olives if you like. Arrange the tomatoes and olives so that they make funny faces, or simply sprinkle them on the dough.
      • Bake in the oven until cooked through.
      • Bon Appetit!

Method 4 of 6: Welcome guests

  1. 1 Arrange a trip on the Hogwarts Express. According to the books, to get on the train, you need to go through a brick wall. To play around with this, hang two curtains on the door and attach the words "Platform 9¾" to them. Ask guests to run through this "wall". Decorate your living room or any other room so that it looks like a compartment. Get off the train to go to Hogwarts.
  2. 2 Distribute the guests by faculty. Distribution is a festive ceremony at the beginning of the school year. It is there that freshmen will recognize their faculty, and your guests will have to learn the same.
    • Buy a witch hat or find a matching hat at home. Smudge it slightly to make it look old and worn.
    • Place the Sorting Hat on the stool in the Great Hall.
    • Ask a family member to call the guests on the list. For example: "Weasley, Rose!"
    • Ask someone else (it is better that this person is not visible to the rest) to shout out the house to which this or that guest was assigned. Decide in advance which faculty each of the guests will go to. Is he a brave and determined man? Then Gryffindor will suit him. Does he have a sharp mind? Distribute it to Ravenclaw. Does the person have gardening ability and a good heart? Hufflepuff is the best house for him. Slytherin is smart and at the same time proud and cunning. Remember that Slytherin is not as bad a house as it might seem!

Method 5 of 6: Party Fun

  1. 1 Give faculties points. If the guest does a very good job, the party organizer (one of the adults) will add 1, 5, 10, 20, or 50 points to his faculty. But remember - you can not only earn points, but also lose! Each game described below contains information about how many points a guest is entitled to for successfully completing a task.
    • An adult must be responsible for scoring faculty points. If your parents are actively involved in the party, ask your mom to dress like Minerva McGonagall and your dad to dress like Snape (keep in mind that they may refuse!).
  2. 2 Host a feast to celebrate the start of the new school year at Hogwarts. Such a feast at Hogwarts is held immediately after distribution to faculties. You can do the same or postpone it for a later time. Any food will do, but it will be more interesting if they are related to the theme of Harry Potter: for example, dishes from the Harry Potter Cookbook or the dishes described in one of the steps above.
    • Set up four tables, or less if you decide to reduce the number of faculties. Have you decided to do without Slytherin? Then, accordingly, a table for this faculty will not be needed.
    • Ask someone to act as the director and say a few words before the feast. Fabulous!
    • If you have other ideas on how to make the feast more fun and interesting, feel free to bring them to life.
    • Remind guests again that good behavior earns them points for their house, and bad behavior can lose points.
    • Distribute “lesson schedules” to guests that list the games for the party.
  3. 3 Play games related to the world of Harry Potter. Here are some options that might interest you:
    • Astronomy. Print and cut out pictures of each planet in the solar system. Each of the students at Hogwarts has ten minutes to find all the hidden planets. Anyone who finds planets will bring ten points to their faculty. The faculty of a person who does not find any planet will lose ten points.
    • Come up with your own spells. Everyone will love this game. Before the party, find a Latin dictionary (paper or online) and make a list of Latin nouns and verbs. At a party, give this list to the "students" so that they can make their spells out of the listed words. Latin is best suited, since many spells from the Harry Potter books are written in this language (for example, the spell "Lumos", from which the wand starts to glow, is translated from Latin as "light"). Test your created spells in magical duels. Use glow-in-the-dark sticks as magic wands.
    • Lunch run. It's a small but fun game. Plan a route through your home or apartment that guests need to run to get to your holiday lunch. During the race, players can "enchant" each other using only stun and disarm spells. If someone is hit by a stun spell, they cannot move for five seconds. If someone is disarmed, then he cannot bewitch other players for five seconds. A player cannot enchant someone if two seconds have not passed since their previous spell. It's easy to get confused about these rules, so practice first or the result will be chaos! It is better to ask your parents in advance if you can play such a game - they may find that running around the house waving sticks is very strange entertainment. In addition, during this game, you can accidentally break or break something.
    • Board games related to Harry Potter: now you can buy many different paraphernalia for Harry Potter, including board games. If you or your friends have such games (eg Harry Potter Monopoly, be sure to include them in the party.
    • Cooking with Harry Potter. Offer your guests a selection of foods. They will have to prepare a dish related to the world of Harry Potter - choose the necessary ingredients, follow the recipe and, finally, taste what happened in the end.You can share into teams by faculty and choose different dishes for each, or, if there are few guests, cook one dish all together. Dishes related to the world of Harry Potter can be found in The Harry Potter Cookbook. If Snape (one of the adults in a suit) likes the resulting dish, everyone who cooked it will receive five points. What will the dish be like? Sour? Sweet? Delicious? Nasty?
    • Potions lesson. Prepare sodas, sweets, and berries. Divide into pairs and take "cauldrons" (toy, or just large bowls) - one for each pair. Mix the ingredients as you like. Ask your dad, brother or uncle to dress like Snape and taste each potion. The best potion will earn its creators ten points. Second and third place potions deserve five and three points, respectively (see below for Potion options).
    • Crosswords. There are thousands of Harry Potter crosswords on the Internet, but it's much more fun to compose your own. If this seems too difficult for you, create a word search game. Guests can exchange crosswords and solve them together. Just don't forget that crosswords should be related to the Harry Potter theme.
  4. 4 Read your favorite Harry Potter phrases aloud. This is actually a lot of fun! If the weather permits, it's best to do it outside, otherwise your dad might think you're up to something.
    • Care of magical creatures. Basically, it is a lotto game. Trace the sheets of paper so that each has an equal number of cells (8-15). In each cell, write the name of the magical creature from the book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", but so that the cards are not completely the same (the names can be repeated, but not too often). Then have an adult read out the names of the creatures in a random order. If the named creature is in someone's card, he needs to cross it out. The winner is the one who first removes all creatures from his card. When this happens, the winner must shout "Hagrid!"
  5. 5 Play Quidditch! Ask guests to bring brooms (or provide brooms yourself) and play Quidditch outside. It is best to play this game if you live in a private house and have your own yard. Remember that teams are made up of two beaters, a catcher, a goalkeeper, and three hunters. There are many ways to play Quidditch in the real world on the internet. Also, instead of him, you can play another game of the wizarding world - Quodpot.
    • Play a hidden object game. This is where the Marauder Map (a map of your house or apartment) comes in handy.
  6. 6 Don't forget to rest. Everyone needs to chill out after the noisy fun and games, which is very good. Don't worry, you won't be bored - play the Harry Potter movie for your guests. If you have several films from the series, arrange a vote.
  7. 7 Practice witchcraft and potions.
    • Start with the Wingardium Leviosa spell. Use your magic wands to keep the balloons in the air for as long as possible. The player whose ball is the last to fall will earn ten points for his house. The faculty whose player first drops the ball will lose five points. Then try turning the buttons into hairpins. Ask the "students" to close their eyes and say a spell. While their eyes are closed, swap the buttons for hairpins. Don't forget to hide the buttons. As a result, everyone will receive five points.
    • Let's move on to potion making. "Silly waving a magic wand has nothing to do with this science." So put your chopsticks aside. Prepare five different potions: Felix Felicis, Chatterbox for the Silent, Truth Serum, Potion of Silence, and Polyjuice Potion.
      • Felix Felicis: Place four drops of yellow food coloring in a glass with ice. Then add a sprite. TA-dah! Today you will definitely get lucky.
      • Chatterbox for Silent Speakers: Place four drops of blue food coloring in a glass filled with ice. Then add a sprite. Now you just can't shut up!
      • Truth Serum: Simply pour Sprite into an iced glass. Ask someone to ask you a question, but remember that you cannot answer unfairly.
      • Potion of Silence: Place four drops of red food coloring in a glass filled with ice. Then add "Sprite". One sip - and you will be speechless!
      • Polyjuice Potion: Repeat the same steps as for the Silence Potion, but replace the red dye with green.
  8. 8 Run the Triwizard Tournament. If you have an inflatable pool and are hosting a party during the warmer months, you can invite guests to do something related to it. Like the dragon quest, you can tie or attach something to your dog's collar so guests can remove the item. A labyrinth can be constructed from improvised means, showing a little imagination.
    • A quieter Triwizard Tournament could also be held.

Method 6 of 6: Pajama Party

  1. 1 If you are going to invite guests to stay overnight, you will need to prepare everything for such a party separately. Here are a few things to take care of:
    • A Place to Sleep: Turn your bedroom into a faculty bedroom. Decorate it in the Gryffindor color scheme (red and gold), clean up and prepare the beds and sleeping bags. You can also divide the bedroom into four parts - different for each faculty. Hang a picture on the door, which will need to be told the password before entering.
    • Breakfast: Usually, after the pajama party, all guests have breakfast together. Consider a Harry Potter-themed breakfast. Decorate the breakfast area to look like Dumbledore's study. Start the day with lush buttered pancakes and discuss your favorite Quidditch teams with your dad (dressed as Dumbledore).

Tips

  • If you have a CD player, play the Hogwarts theme music in the hallway when guests / students start arriving.
  • The Harry Potter Quiz is a great way to pass time and earn points for your house.
  • Make letters from Hogwarts. Write them in green ink on cold coffee-dyed paper, place them in a beautiful looking yellow envelope and seal with red wax. You can even play Harry Potter-related music while you are writing your letters.
  • Why not have a Yule Ball? Ask your guests to bring some smart clothes, do each other's makeup (if you are girls), turn on the music and dance! Create a playlist of fast (dance) songs, slow tunes and Harry Potter-related songs - and your Yule Ball will be great!
  • Give everyone a tie in house colors and buy or make witch hats.
  • Use the Hogwarts logo as decoration. Just type “Hogwarts logo” into a search engine.
  • Watch the Potter Puppet Pals and the mysterious ticking noise and create your own Harry Potter puppet show.
  • Duels can be fought in another way. Make a deck of cards, on each of which write a spell or the word "DEATH". The players take turns drawing cards from the deck, and the one whose spell is stronger takes his own card and the opponent's card. The one who collects more cards by the end of the game wins.
  • Try making magic wands for yourself and your party guests.
  • Another idea for a distribution ceremony: It can be done using a laptop, computer, or phone. If the guest has an e-mail and is fluent in English, they can take the distribution test on the Pottermore website (the most correct, it was made by J.K. Rowling herself). If the guest does not have an email address, simply search for "which Hogwarts house is right for you," or another similar query, and ask them to take one of the unofficial tests.
  • If guests are fluent in English, there are other interesting tests on the Pottermore website.

Warnings

  • If you play Quidditch outdoors, make sure the beaters don't hit other players too hard! It is enough just to touch the player to make him drop the ball (quaffle).
  • Do not use objects that may be dangerous. The worst thing that can happen is if any of the children get hurt or injured at a party.
  • Remember, not all Harry Potter fans might like the party! If you are going to decorate a Gryffindor-themed party venue - in red and gold - and hang posters of Harry Potter on the walls, those who like Slytherin, Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff will not be happy about it! To avoid conflicts, divide the main party room into multiple areas where students from each department can gather. If you're hosting a slumber party, set aside a place for students in each house to sleep, put their belongings, and just get together.
  • If you decide to use the Pottermore test for distribution, remember that it takes some time to complete.
  • If any of the guests refuses to leave after the party, threaten them with dangerous spells. No one will think this is rude - this is a Harry Potter-style party! If you do not know such spells, type "unforgivable spells from Harry Potter" in a Google search engine.

What do you need

  • Gift bags for guests. Make them yourself in the Harry Potter theme!
