When you are invited to a wedding, the first question you ask is "What should I wear?" There are different formal styles that require certain garments. This article will help you understand everything you need to know.
Steps
Method 1 of 5: Daily
When most guys hear the phrase casual, they immediately think of jeans and a T-shirt. This is wrong. When we say casual, we mean smart casual (smart attire, but not formal).
1 Wear a polo or short-sleeved button-down shirt.
2 Wear khakis or slacks. Plain trousers will work too. But jeans are not acceptable.
3 Put on your belt. Especially if you're going to tuck your shirt into your pants.
4 Put on your dress shoes. Moccasins will also work.
5 Wear a loose tie (optional).
Method 2 of 5: Business casual
This style is a bit formal everyday.
1 Wear a button-down long-sleeved shirt of any color and tuck it into your pants.
2 Put on a tightly knotted tie.
3 Wear wide slacks or black trousers, belt and dress shoes.
4 You can also wear a blazer or jacket. You can do without a tie. But it is recommended to wear a tie if you do have one.
Method 3 of 5: Semi-Formal
This style is quite official, but not completely.
1 Put on a two-piece suit. For daytime weddings, a gray or cream suit is suitable; for evening time, darker shades are suitable.
2 Wear dress shoes and tailored trousers. If you don't have a suit, then at a minimum, you need to wear a casual business outfit with a jacket or blazer and tailored trousers.
3 Wear a tie if possible.
Method 4 of 5: Official
1 Wear a three-piece suit (suit and vest), dress shoes, and tailored trousers. However, you can also wear a tuxedo for an evening wedding. If you only have a two-piece suit, that will work too, but try to find a vest.
Method 5 of 5: Formal Evening
1 Put on a tuxedo, white shirt, black vest, and black bow tie. Today a black tie is also worn, but a bow tie is preferred. You cannot wear anything other than a tuxedo. If you don't have one, rent it.
2 Experiment with your tie. The tie is traditionally black, but you can opt for a tuxedo and tie in a different color if you like.
- If you are invited to a wedding with a dress code of tailcoats, congratulations. The tailcoat consists of, strictly speaking, a black tailcoat, an all-white vest, a white shirt with curled collar edges, a white bow tie and exclusive leather shoes. This is your choice. You cannot wear anything else.
Tips
- Enjoy your wedding.
- Never wear jeans.
- If your invitation does not include a dress code, assume the wedding is semi-formal and dress accordingly. Of course, if it's more casual, you can leave the jacket in the car and the tie if it's super casual.
* Don't let the weather influence what you wear. If it should be cold, the bride and groom will take care of this by choosing a dress code.
- Teenagers must comply with all dress code rules along with adults. Unlike children, teenagers are required to wear a tuxedo for a formal evening wedding and are required to wear tailored trousers at all times.
- For small children, different rules:
- Casual Style: They should be dressed in smart shorts or pants and a neat shirt.
- Business casual: Children can wear smart shorts or trousers, a smart shirt and tie.
- Semi-Formal Style: Children should wear a suit or smart shorts or trousers, shirt, tie and vest (recommended but not required).
- Formal style: a suit is required, but small tuxedos with shorts can be sewn for small children (ages 1 to 3).
- For a formal evening wedding, kids can wear a tuxedo, suit, or a tuxedo with shorts for toddlers.
- For children 6-12 years old: they must follow all dress code rules, except for the formal evening dress. They are not required to wear a tuxedo, but can wear a suit and tie. However, it is recommended that you wear a tuxedo. Children should always wear trousers.
