Content

In Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen, the three legendary birds are Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. Catch Articuno, an ice-type bird, deep within the Seafoam Islands accessed from Route 20. Catch Zapdos, an electric-type bird, at Power Station, which is located downriver from the entrance to the Stone Tunnel. Find Moltres, a fire-type bird, at the top of Amber Mountain located on Lonely Island.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Articuno

  1. 1 Find Articuno on the Seafoam Islands. Articuno is a Legendary Ice-type Pokémon. Among the three legendary birds, it is the most difficult to catch. Travel to Fuchsia town, then sail along Route 19, then left on Route 20, and you will reach the Sea Foam Islands. Go ashore. To get to Articuno, you will have to walk through a maze of ice and river rapids.
    • You can't get to Articuno without a Pokémon with Strength and Surfing. A difficult puzzle awaits you in which you need to move stones.
  2. 2 Prepare yourself. Grab some Sprays to prevent wild Pokémon encounters. Also, be sure to bring at least 30 ultraballs with you. Although Articuno is the weakest of the three birds, he is still a very strong Pokémon. You won't catch Articuno if you run out of ultra balls during the battle!
    • Save before the battle. Save when you find Articuno, and only then try to catch him. That way, if you fail the first time, you can fight him again.
  3. 3 Consider bringing Sil or Dewdong with you. Sil and Dewdong take 8 times less damage from Frost abilities, and Articuno's Ice Ray is his only offensive ability. Try to catch Sil in the cave on your way to Articuno.
    • Give Strength or Dewdong Leftovers to make the fight even easier. If a Pokémon is holding Remnants, then during the battle it gradually restores its health. Find the Remnants on Route 12 and 16. They are hidden underneath where Snorlax slept.
  4. 4 Catch Articuno. To be sure to catch this Pokemon, you must first reduce its health to a red bar, and then apply a status effect on it. Freezing and sleeping are ideal choices. The best option is still Paralysis, as this effect does not subside during combat. Keep throwing Ultraballs at Articuno until you catch him. The main thing is not to do more damage to him, otherwise Articuno will lose consciousness and you will not be able to catch him!
    • Do not apply Poison and Scorch effects, which gradually damage the affected Pokémon. Using them can lead to the fact that you will kill Articuno before you can catch him.

Part 2 of 3: Zapdos

  1. 1 Find Zapdos at the Power Plant. Capturing Zapdos is the second most difficult, and to get to it, you will have to make some effort. When you get the HM Surfing Safari ability, fly to the Stone Tunnel entrance and walk up to the tall grass, go through the open fence and float down the river to the Power Plant.Enter the Power Plant and move counterclockwise around the building until you find Zapdos.
    • You will know you have found Zpados when you see a bird Pokémon standing in your way outside of the battle screen.
  2. 2 Prepare for battle. Buy at least 35 Ultra Balls and if Zapdos is what you want the most, consider using a Masterball. Bring some Sprays with you to make your way through the Power Plant easier. Without them, you will encounter many strong electric-type Pokémon.
  3. 3 Pick up a Pokémon with Drillbeak resistance. This is Zapdos's only offensive ability, so having a Pokémon with resistance to this attack will make the fight much easier. Geodood and Graveler are ideal choices: they have resistance to all flying-type abilities, have high defense rates, and are immune to the Electric Wave ability. Don't use these Pokémon when going through the Power Plant, better leave them for Zapdos!
    • Equip Pokémon with the Remnants so that they can restore their health during the battle.
    • Have Geodud or Graveler cast Defensive Pose several times. This will further increase their protection.
  4. 4 Capture Zapdos. It will be another battle, but you will succeed! When you find this legendary bird, be sure to save and only then start the battle. During the battle, you need to reduce the bird's health to a red bar, and then impose a status effect on it, for example, sleep, paralysis or freezing. When the bird is weak, start throwing ultraballs at it until you catch it!
    • Save after the battle, so that if something happens, all your efforts will not go to waste!

Part 3 of 3: Moltres

  1. 1 Find Moltres at the top of Amber Mountain. Moltres is the easiest to catch, but it will take you a long time to find him. You will also have to overcome many obstacles along the way. First of all, make sure you beat the # 7 Stadium leader on Cinnabar Island and get the Tri-Pass from Bill. Get to the Lonely Island (Sevia Island) and climb to the very top of Amber Mountain. To pass all the obstacles that you meet along the way, you must take Pokémon with Surfing, Strength and Stonebreaking abilities.
    • Moltres is the only Legendary bird with a location different from that of the Red and Blue games. In these versions, Moltres could be found on Victory Road.
    • Surfing, Strength and Stonebreaking are HM abilities. You can only train certain Pokémon with them. Find out how to get all HM abilities if you don't already have them.
  2. 2 Prepare for battle. Be sure to bring at least 30 Ultraballs with you. Also get some Super Sprays. The path to Moltres is quite long and you will encounter many powerful Pokémon along it.
  3. 3 Take a Pokémon with Flame Blast. With its help, your Pokemon will gain immunity to the only two attacking abilities of Moltres. Thanks to this ability, the battle will become much easier, as Moltres will not be able to inflict any damage on you!
    • Vulpix and Ponyta have the ability Fire Blast. You can catch Ponita outside Amber Mountain, where Moltres is hiding. During the entire battle, Ponyta will take 0 damage, so don't worry about her level and how much health.
  4. 4 Catch Moltres. Be sure to save before the fight. To be sure to catch this bird, you must lower its health to a red bar, and then apply a status effect, such as freeze, sleep, or paralysis. Once you've weakened Moltres, start throwing Ultra Balls at her until you catch her.

Tips

  • To get to these Pokémon, you will need several HM abilities: Stonebreaker, Strength, and Surfing.
  • If the bird dies before you catch it, just turn off the console, turn it on and try to catch it again. You didn’t save yourself in vain before every battle!
  • Zapdos's Electric Wave can paralyze your Pokémon. The Moltres Flamethrower can inflict a burn effect. Articuno's ice ray can freeze.
  • Don't despair if you can't catch them on the first try - you will succeed! It will take time and patience to catch them.
  • Feel free to use the masterball. Just make sure it's the Pokemon you want to catch the most!

Warnings

  • Beware of the Electric Wave (Zapdos) ability. She paralyzes the Pokémon.
  • Do not use abilities that inflict poison or burn effects. Because of them, legendary birds can lose consciousness before you have time to catch them.
  • Beware of the Flamethrower (Moltres) ability. It causes a burn effect.
  • Beware of the ice ray ability (Articuno). She can freeze your Pokémon.
  • Always save before fighting Legendary Pokémon. If, due to your nerves, you turn off the game, you will lose all unsaved data! Also, if you can't catch the bird the first time, saving your game will give you the option to restart your console and try again. You should also save after capturing each bird.
  • Using the Gameshark cheat to catch Pokémon can be noticed during the competition. Use it only if you are not going to compete.
