In this article, we are going to show you how to send an email using Gmail. You can do this on the Gmail website on your computer, or in the Gmail app on your mobile device.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On a computer

  1. 1 Open the Gmail website. Go to https://www.gmail.com/ in your computer's web browser. Your Gmail inbox will open if you are already logged in.
    • If you're not already signed in to your Gmail account, enter your email address and password.
  2. 2 Click on + Write. It's on the top-left side of your Gmail inbox. A New Message window will open in the lower right corner.
    • In the old version of Gmail, click "Compose."
  3. 3 Enter the email address of the recipient of the letter. Click on the "To" line at the top of the "New Message" window, and then enter the email address of the recipient of your letter.
    • To enter multiple email addresses, enter the first address, press Tab ↹ and repeat this with other email addresses.
    • To send a Cc or Bcc of the letter to another person, click Cc or Bcc on the right side of the To line, and then enter your email address in the Cc or Bcc line.
  4. 4 Enter a subject for your email. Do this on the "Subject" line.
    • Typically, the subject line briefly describes what the letter is about.
  5. 5 Enter your email text. Do this in the large text box below the Subject line.
  6. 6 Format the text (optional). To make the text bold or italic, or to break it down to bullet points, select the text you want, and then click one of the formatting options at the bottom of the New Message window.
    • For example, to make the text bold, select it and click on the "B" icon below the letter.
  7. 7 Attach a file (if needed). To do this, click on the icon at the bottom of the window, select the files you want to attach, then click Open (or Select on a Mac).
    • You can attach a photo to the letter or insert it directly into the letter. Click the icon at the bottom of the window, click "Select Files", select the photos you want and click "Open."
  8. 8 Click on send. This blue button is in the lower-right corner of the email window. An email will be sent to the specified email addresses.

Method 2 of 2: On a mobile device

  1. 1 Launch the Gmail app. Click the red M icon on a white background. Your Gmail inbox will open if you are already logged in.
    • If you are not already signed in to your Gmail account, select your account and / or enter your email address and password.
  2. 2 Tap the icon . It is located in the lower right corner of the screen. A window for creating a new letter will open.
  3. 3 Please enter your email address. Click on the "To" line, and then enter the email address of the recipient of the letter.
Do this in the "Write a letter" text box.
  6. 6 Attach a file or photo (if required) to the letter. For this:
    • Click on at the top of the screen.
    • Tap Camera Roll (iPhone) or Attach File (Android).
    • Select a photo or file.
  7. 7 Tap the Send icon . It looks like a paper airplane and is located in the upper right corner of the screen. The email will be sent.

Tips

  • To save your email as a draft on your computer, wait until the “Saved” message appears next to the trash can icon in the lower right corner of the window, and then click the X in the upper right corner of the window. Your letter will be saved in the "Drafts" folder, which is located on the left pane of your mailbox.
  • The Bcc recipient's address is not disclosed to the recipient of the main letter.
  • Reread the letter. Never include your address, phone number, or similar personal information on it, unless you are sending a letter to a close friend or family member.

Warnings

  • Do not list your email address on suspicious sites or share it with strangers.
