Pumpkins no longer grow by themselves (since 1.6.4). This means that the pumpkin can be obtained from the villagers or found in an abandoned mine. Once you've got the grains, they need to be planted for the pumpkins to grow!

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Abandoned mines

Abandoned mines can be found deep underground.

1. 1 Find a deep cave and explore it.
   • Make sure you have everything you need.
2. 2 Find rails, fences, or torches that you didn't place.
3. 3 Walk around, find a chest.
   • The chests are in the minecarts.
4. 4 Each chest can have a pumpkin seed inside.

Method 2 of 3: Trade

You can buy various items from the villagers, including grains or a slice of pumpkin (for precious stones).

1. 1 Find a village.
2. 2 Find a farmer.
   • The farmers are dressed in brown robes.
3. 3 Click on the farmer with the right mouse button.
   • If the farmer doesn't offer to buy pumpkin slices, find another!
4. 4 If the farmer has pumpkin slices, drag your emerald to the trade window and grab yourself a pumpkin slice.
5. 5 Place the slice on the workbench and get the grains from it.

Method 3 of 3: How to Grow a Pumpkin

When you have grains (at least one), you can start growing pumpkins. Pumpkins grow on plowed land near water, they need a clean block on top and an empty block next to it in order to grow.

1. 1 Create a plowed area.
2. 2 Make sure there is a clean block (glass or air) above the pumpkin.
3. 3 Plant a pumpkin seed.
4. 4 Wait for the pumpkin to grow!
5. 5 When you have the pumpkin, remove the grains from it again to grow more pumpkins.

Tips

• Villages are formed only on flat terrain.
• Be careful underground, there are many monsters.
• If farmers don't sell pumpkin, buy what they already have so that new items appear.
