Sony PlayStation 3 game consoles can be deactivated using the XMB or your computer. Sony offers options to deactivate video or game purchases from your account, or delete your account from all of your devices at once. Choose a method to deactivate your PS3.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Method One: Deactivating PS3 Using Console

1. 1 Turn on the PS3 you want to deactivate.
2. 2 Find the PlayStation Network icon on your Xross Media Bar (XMB). Click on the X button in the access menu.
3. 3 Select the Login icon. Sign in to your Sony Entertainment account. This is the account you use when purchasing games.
4. 4 Highlight 'Account Management' under the Login menu and press X.
5. 5 Find “System Activation” and click X.
6. 6 Select your PS3 system from this menu. There can be more than 1 PS3 here if you've activated multiple PS3 systems, so make sure you pick the right one. Select by pressing X.
7. 7 Select Game or Video Activation System.
8. 8 Click “Deactivate System,” then click the X button.
9. 9 Return to Game or Video to completely deactivate the system for both views. Click on it and select “Deactivate System” again. You will no longer have access to games or videos from your Sony Network account.

Method 2 of 2: Method Two: Deactivate All PS Consoles from Your Computer

1. 1 Go to the computer. Open your browser.
2. 2 Follow the link: https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/login.action.
3. 3 Sign in with your Sony Network account.
4. 4 Click on the Account tab at the top of the page.
5. 5 Select “Media and Devices” from the list of options on the left side of the Account column.
6. 6 Highlight the Game option by hovering your mouse over the field.
7. 7 Click “Deactivate All.” Confirm that you want to deactivate all devices in your account.
   • Please be aware that there are limitations on this feature. You can only deactivate all systems every 6 months.
   • You will need to activate the system again to access the downloaded games. You can share your games with up to 5 PlayStation devices that are registered in your account.
   • If you want to deactivate one PS3, you need to call Sony Entertainment Network customer service at 1-855-999-7669.
8. 8 Repeat deactivation for Video, Music and Comics options.
