Are you trying to stop using Twitter? After proceeding to deactivate, your account will "turn off" for 30 days, then be deleted. This is a great way to help you stop freaking and still protect your account in case you need it again. Check out Step 1 below to learn how.

Steps

  1. Log in to your Twitter account on your computer. The option to disable Twitter is only available on the desktop interface, so open it in your desktop browser or run the desktop version in a mobile browser. You need to sign in to deactivate your account.

  2. Open the Settings menu. Click the gear icon in the upper right corner of the Twitter homepage. Select Settings from the menu that appears.
  3. Click the "Deactivate my account" button. The option is at the bottom of the Settings menu. You may need to scroll down to see it.

  4. Read disabled warnings. When disabled, your account will be retained for 30 days on the Twitter server. After that, the account and all related data will be deleted.
    • You can reactivate your account at any time within a 30-day period by logging into the Twitter homepage.
    • If you want to change the username or Twitter URL, it is not necessary to disable the account. You can change these in the Settings menu.

  5. Disable account. Click the button "Deactivate @accountname"to deactivate the account. You need to enter the password to disable.
    • Content on your account is still viewable during the transfer to the Twitter server (takes a few days).
    • If you want to use your username or email address again to create a new account within 30 days, before disabling, you must go to the Settings menu to change that information.
    • If your password was not accepted during deactivation, reset it first.
