There are as many reasons to shave your legs as there are ways to do it. Maybe you just like smooth legs, or you are a cyclist who shaves for aerodynamic reasons. Whatever the reason, shaving just remains a weird and awkward process where you have to bend over backwards and cut yourself. It depends on you the best way to shave your legs - how much hair you have on your legs, how fast it grows, and how you learned to shave (if you've already learned this). If you want to know how to shave, you've come to the right place. Read on for some tips on how to get smooth, soft legs.

To step

Method 1 of 4: Disposable razor

  1. Check your razor. Make sure this is clean, sharp and undamaged. If you have very thin hair, you can use the same blade several times. If you have coarse hair, you may only be able to use the blade a few times. If you are not sure, check if you feel the shaving foil pulling or if it gets stuck while shaving. It is then time to get a new blade.
  2. Jump in the shower. Or the bathtub - choose the one that makes you feel most comfortable. Wash as usual before shaving. Let your hair and skin get wet for about two to four minutes, but don't rinse with hot water for too long. This is because your hair follicles swell, making it difficult to shave your legs properly.
  3. Sit down. When you shower, sit on the edge of the tub. When you are in the bath, put your foot against the wall. Keep your leg bent so that you can easily reach your ankles.
  4. Apply shaving cream or a water-soluble skin cream. Try to find a moisturizing agent. The ingredients in such products soften your skin. If you choose an odorless cream, you are less likely to suffer from skin irritation. A water-soluble skin cream is often gentler on your skin than traditional shaving cream. You are therefore not bound by means that are only intended for your gender.
  5. Start with your ankle. Start at the bottom of your leg and shave upwards in long strokes, against the grain. Do not rush, it is not a race where you have to get over the finish line as quickly as possible. It's more important to shave with light, even strokes rather than getting ready as soon as possible. Rinse the razor regularly - clean, hot water is best for this - to keep the shaving foils clean and free of hair. You also ensure that the blades are always wet.
    • Work upwards like this and don't forget the inside and outside of your thighs. Don't forget to rinse the razor from time to time.
  6. Shave your feet. Repeat the process gently on your feet - apply foam or cream, shave in even strokes and rinse the blade. Shave on top of your toes and your feet. The skin on your feet is much thinner than the skin on your legs. So be careful.
  7. Rinse your leg. After you shave one leg, rinse it and repeat the entire process on your other leg.
  8. Check your legs for any spots you missed. Slide your fingertips over any part of your legs that you shaved. If you find any spots you missed, shave them and check the rest of your leg. When you are sure everything is shaved properly, rinse and dry your legs. Now you can enjoy your smooth soft legs.
  9. Apply a moisturizer. Use an aftershave balm, oil, or medical remedy to soothe your skin and reduce or remove any red bumps you sometimes get from shaving.

Method 2 of 4: Shaver

  1. Wash your legs. The hair on your legs should be wet and straight, ready to be shaved.
  2. Make sure your shaver is neatly clean. A dirty shaver shaves less well and can pull your hair, which can lead to red spots, exclamations of pain and some swear words. Always use a clean shaver.
  3. Gently press the shaver against your leg. Make sure the shaving heads lie snug against the skin. This way you can shave off as much hair as possible with as little effort as possible.
    • You really don't need to apply a lot of pressure when you shave - just run your shaver gently over your legs. If you apply too much pressure, you flatten the hair, preventing a good shave and causing stubble. The blades will also wear out faster.
    • Applying just a little pressure makes shaving easier and avoids possible skin irritation.
  4. Hold the shaver straight against your leg. Tilting the appliance can cause stubble and irritated skin.

Method 3 of 4: Waxing

  1. Grow your hair. For this method to work properly, you need to have enough hair on your legs for the wax to stick to. Grow your hair about 1 inch long.
  2. Exfoliate your skin. A few days before waxing your legs, use a body scrub with a light abrasive effect to exfoliate your legs. Do this ahead of time so you can avoid potential skin irritation.
  3. Powder your legs. Before you start waxing, sprinkle some talc or baby powder on your legs. The powder will absorb all the grease on your skin and the wax will adhere better to your hair.
  4. Heat the wax. Warm up the wax as indicated on the packaging. Be careful not to overheat the wax - if you burn yourself this can be very painful.
  5. Grab a comfortable chair. Place the chair on a surface that is easy to clean - waxing can be a mess. Apply the wax in a thin, even layer. Hold the spatula at a 90 degree angle and apply the wax in the direction of the hair. Don't forget your feet!
  6. Pull up! Tighten the skin with one hand and remove the strip with your other hand. Pull the strip against the grain. Pull the strip off quickly - the slower you pull, the longer you will be in pain.
    • Keep your hand as close to your skin as possible as you pull the strip off. This way it hurts less. Remove all wax.
    • Place a damp towel over your legs if necessary. This way you soften any skin irritation.
  7. Remove the last remnants of wax from your skin. Soak a cotton ball in a little skin oil and apply this to your legs.
  8. Apply an antiseptic. After waxing, use an antiseptic spray or other salicylic acid solution to disinfect the skin, prevent ingrown hairs, and soothe skin irritation.

Method 4 of 4: Chemical hair removal

  1. Make sure your skin is clean and you don't have any cuts or dirt on your legs. The chemicals dissolve the keratin at the beginning of the hair shaft.
    • Having clean skin will make this process easier. Oil on your skin and hair makes the chemical less effective.
    • Smooth skin without wounds prevents skin irritation.
  2. Soften the hair. Put a warm washcloth on your legs to soften the hair. Wet the hair for about three to five minutes. Dry your legs when you are done.
  3. Apply generously, making sure to cover all of the hair you want to remove. Do not rub the product into your skin; the drug already works without you doing this.
  4. Follow the directions on the package. Leave the cream on your legs for as long as it says on the package. Do not leave the depilatory cream on your legs for longer than the prescribed time - this can irritate your skin or even cause burns.
    • Keep a clock or watch handy so you can keep an eye on the time. If you feel your legs burning before it is time to remove the cream, rinse it off your legs.
  5. Remove the cream from your legs. After you are done, remove the cream using a plastic scraper (if it was included in the package). Scrape the scraps off your legs and then rinse your legs.
    • Rub a damp washcloth over your skin in a downward motion. This will remove any remaining hair and finish cleaning your legs.
  6. Avoid skin irritation. Do not use strong products on your skin for two days after using a depilatory cream.

Tips

  • Conditioner is a good substitute for shaving cream or shaving cream. It has a moisturizing effect while shaving, so you don't have to rub your legs with lotion afterwards.
  • If you rub an ice cube over your skin immediately after shaving, it will make your legs as smooth as glass.
  • If you shave the lower part of your leg with a razor, pay close attention to your shin. Your skin is thinner there. Also pay close attention to the area around your knee. If you keep your knee bent, shave it gently. It is less easy to shave your knees if you keep your legs straight. Blood doesn't look good!
  • A new, sharp razor blade gives the best results. So get a new blade regularly.
  • Use a body scrub beforehand to remove all dead skin cells. That way you can shave better.
  • Be careful when shaving your knees.
  • If you shave the back of your thighs, keep in mind that the hair can grow in weird directions there. Feel with your hand so you know which direction the hair is growing. Then shave the hair against the grain.
  • If you shave the area at the top of your leg, work slowly. It can be difficult to shave because of your knee.
  • Make sure to use enough shaving cream or gel. This allows you to shave better and prevents nicks and wounds.
  • Rinse the bathtub when you're done - don't leave hair in the tub.
  • Extend your feet when shaving the area near your ankles.
  • If you've been shaving for a while, a razor with built-in shaving strips is a great way to shave your underarms and legs without using shaving gel. This is also a great way to save money.
  • If you want smooth legs but don't have a bathtub or shower nearby, coat your legs with a thick layer of lotion and shave them. Rinse the lotion and hair off the razor in a cup of water or wipe the blade on a cloth.
  • Do not use a shaver if you are just starting to shave. You will cut and burn skin.
  • The only difference between men's razors and women's razors is the shape of the handle and the color.
  • If you are shaving against the direction of your hair and you keep getting skin irritation, try shaving in the direction of your hair. You will be less able to shave this way, but you will also suffer less from irritated skin.
  • Don't apply too much pressure the first few times you shave until you get used to how to shave. If you press too hard you will cut yourself. So be careful. Gently press the razor onto your skin and if it doesn't work, apply more pressure.
  • If you're not into razor blades that much or you're afraid of cutting yourself, go to the store and buy Nair or Veet. You do not need a razor blade for this and your legs will also stay smooth and soft for a lot longer than when you shave in the normal way.
  • Be very careful when shaving so you don't cut yourself!
  • If you want to shave yourself well and want the hair to stay off a little longer, follow the directions for shaving in the shower (method 1) and then shave your legs again with a razor. This will make your legs as soft as a baby's skin.
  • When shaving, do not go over your legs from side to side. You can then cut yourself. Shave from the bottom to the top against the grain.
  • If you want to start shaving, talk to your mom first. Of course you don't want your mom to get mad at you and stop trusting you.

Warnings

  • Never shave dry.
  • Use caution when shaving your knees, ankles, toes, hips, and other bony parts of your body to avoid nicks and cuts.
  • If you get razor burn, don't put scented lotion on your legs. This will sting.
  • Don't let your sister, friends, mom, aunt, or anyone other than yourself use your razor.
  • If you don't use lotion after shaving, your skin will become dry and flaky.
  • Use shower gel after shaving. This has a moisturizing effect and makes your legs look good.
  • Shave around bruises and cuts. Don't put too much pressure on your skin to avoid cuts and skin irritation.
  • If you have sensitive skin, it is best to use a mild soap instead of shaving gel. This way you prevent skin irritation.
  • If you cut yourself, wash the wound and put a band-aid on it.

Necessities

  • Bathtub or sink
  • Razor blade
  • Shaving gel, conditioner, shaving cream, soap or a razor with strips with shaving gel on it.
  • If you don't have any of the above at home (or if you want a cheaper option), you can buy a regular conditioner from the supermarket or drug store.
  • Lotion (to make your legs soft and smooth after shaving).
