Content

In this article, you can learn how to use Google's help functions. Google doesn't have customer service that you can call or email directly. In fact, you can only talk to Google if you need help related to a specific product (such as a smartphone with Android), or if you are a journalist. In almost all other situations, you will not be able to solve the problem by contacting Google. So, while you can't directly ask Google for help if you have problems with things like Gmail or YouTube, you can find tips and instructions on how to use such services on the Google help website. Always keep in mind that many phone numbers and email addresses that appear to be part of Google are dealing with scammers.

To step

Method 1 of 2: Using Google Support

  1. Understand how Google's help center works. Google doesn't have customer service for things like password or account recovery, but it does have an extensive list of FAQs with step-by-step instructions to help you solve your problem.
    • The help center does not allow you to contact Google directly, but it is the only alternative that Google offers you for problems that you might want to speak to someone from Google.
  2. Open Google Support. Go to https://support.google.com/ in the web browser on your computer.
  3. Choose a product. Click on the name of the product or program you have a problem with.
    • For example, if you have problems with Google Chrome, you can click the option Google Chrome click.
  4. View the available resources. In the middle of the page you will see a list of common topics, so see if you might see your question listed there.
  5. Select a category from the available resources. Click on the category of questions or problems you want to use. If all goes well, the category will be enlarged and you will see more specific options.
    • If you click on the category and immediately see a help page, skip the step below.
    • You can also type your question or problem in the search bar at the top of the page.
  6. Choose a topic within the resource. Click on one of the topics under the more extensive category. This will open the article on the topic you are looking for.
    • Once you have typed your question or problem into the search bar, click on the topic that appears in the drop-down menu below the search bar.
  7. Follow the instructions in the help article. Read the article that you see carefully, follow the instructions in the text and see if you can solve your problem.
    • You may have to read multiple articles and follow multiple sets of instructions to fully resolve your problem.
    • Many help articles have a list of articles related to the topic on the right side of the page.
  8. See if you see the help phone numbers for your Android phone. If you're looking for help on an Android model and you don't have a Pixel phone, do the following to find the list of help numbers to call:
    • Click on: Pixel phone on the Google help page.
    • Click on: Please contact us at the top right of the page.
    • click on Support for Android devices.
    • View the list of phone numbers that you will see.
  9. Request a call for your Pixel phone. If you have a Pixel 1 or Pixel 2 smartphone with Android, you can get help from a Google chat or phone feature by doing the following:
    • Click on: Pixel phone on the Google help page.
    • Click on: Please contact us at the top right of the page.
    • click on Support for a Pixel device.
    • Choose your Pixel model.
    • Click on: Request phone call to be called back, or at Request chat if you prefer to talk via the chat function.
    • Follow the instructions on the screen.
  10. Request a call for issues with Google Drive. Google Drive is the only application or service for which Google offers direct support. To request a chat conversation or email reply, do the following:
    • click on Google Drive on the Google help page.
    • click on Contact at the top right of the page.
    • Choose a topic and select a category when prompted.
      • The option Request a refund will not work at this step.
    • Click on: Request chat or on: Help by email.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to start a conversation via chat or email.

Method 2 of 2: Contact Google directly

  1. Know that there are very few ways you can contact Google directly. Unless you're a journalist or an administrator in G Suite, your options to contact Google are limited to sending an old-fashioned email and applying for a job.
    • The one exception to this rule, for help with smartphones running Android, Pixel devices and Google Drive, we wrote in the method above.
  2. Never call a number that is not explicitly mentioned by Google itself. There are currently several phone numbers in circulation that appear to be from Google itself, when in reality they are scammers. To avoid being scammed (or simply wasting your time), only call a number if it is specifically mentioned in a Google document itself. For example, you can call a number listed on a G Suite form, but not a number found on a non-Google website.
    • The same goes for e-mail addresses and postal addresses.
    • Google employees will never ask for your password in a phone or chat conversation.
  3. Send an email to the Google press team. If you are a journalist and would like to contact Google to make an inquiry, you can send an email to: [email protected]. Whether or not you receive an answer will depend on the subject of your email.
    • Google only answers emails from people who are officially registered as journalists.
  4. Send your question by post to the Google address. If you don't mind sending a genuine letter by regular mail, even if you don't get an answer, you can send your question by mail to: 1600 Amphitheater Parkway Mountain View, CA 94043, USA. The chance that Google will reply to a traditional letter is getting smaller by the day, so don't do this if you have an urgent or sensitive issue.
  5. Contact the G Suite help center. Regular Google users can't do this, but G Suite administrators have 24-hour access to customer support. If you are indeed an administrator of G Suite and you want to connect with Google through G Suite, do the following:
    • Go to https://gsuite.google.com/support/ in your web browser.
    • Choose a way to get in touch (for example, click Telephone assistance if you want to call Google).
    • Click on: LOG IN TO G SUITE.
    • Sign in using your admin account information in G Suite.
    • Follow the instructions on the screen. If you call Google, you will also have to follow the spoken instructions you receive via the hotline.
  6. Apply for a job at Google. The last way you can contact Google directly is to apply for a job with them. On the Google jobs page you can see which vacancies are open and how to apply for them:
    • Go to: https://careers.google.com/jobs in your computer's web browser.
    • In the text field on the far right, adjust the location to the location of your preference.
    • Click the "Search Tasks" text field and then press ↵ Enter.
    • Scroll through the results.
    • Choose a result and then click TO APPLY top right corner.
    • Complete the application and follow the instructions on the screen.

Tips

  • Many people mistakenly believe that they can contact Google customer service and ask for help if, for example, they forget their password, want to change their account, and the like. Unfortunately, Google has neither the time nor the staff to guide users through these types of procedures.

Warnings

  • Google employees are not supposed to ask for your passwords.
  • Never give out your personal details by e-mail or telephone. Be especially careful with information about your location.
