Tired of spending your money on those floppy flower pots that blow over with a little wind or freeze to pieces in winter? Then make concrete flower pots yourself. Once you have made a mold, you can make as many pots as you want. These sturdy flower pots are cheap and will last for years.

To step

  1. Make a mold for your flower pots. Use two identical bins, one slightly larger than the other. For example, use two bowls or two buckets, as long as the smallest is at least 2-3 cm smaller than the largest. You can also make two rectangular containers out of plywood.
  2. Cover the inside of the outer container and the outside of the inner container with cooking oil or nonstick cooking spray. You can use beeswax in wooden containers.
  3. Cut a minimum of two or three pieces of PVC pipe with a diameter of 2.5 cm. The pieces of pipe that you will use to make drainage holes in the flower pots should be 5 cm long.
  4. Put on work gloves to protect your hands from the concrete mixture. Prepare a batch of quick-drying concrete according to the directions on the package. Add a color to the concrete if you want.
  5. Pour 5 cm of concrete into the large container. Insert the pieces of pipe into the concrete, leaving 7 to 10 cm between the pipes. Smooth the concrete around the pipes, but do not cover them as they must be left open to form the drainage holes.
  6. Carefully place the smaller container in the center of the large container. Push the small tray into the concrete until the bottom of it rests on the tubes.
  7. Now pour concrete into the space between the large and small container. Gently drop the bucket onto a firm surface to stamp the concrete, then add more concrete up to the edge. Smooth the edge with a putty knife.
  8. Let the concrete dry for at least 24 hours, then take out the smallest container to expose your concrete flower pot. Lightly dampen the concrete with a plant sprayer with cold water. Do not take out the large container just yet.
  9. Cover the concrete pot with a large piece of plastic and let it harden for another week. Occasionally spray the concrete with the plant sprayer to keep it moist.
  10. Turn the container over and gently but firmly tap the bottom of the container with the heel of your hand to release the jar, then take them apart.
  11. Clean both the large and small container. You can use the trays to make several flower pots.
  12. Ready.
