This article will show you how to use Soundflower in combination with Audacity to record sound from an application on a Mac OS X computer.

Steps

1. 1 Download Soundflower from the site http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/. To do this, on the website, click "Soundflower-1.5.1.dmg" in the "Downloads" section.
2. 2 Open the .dmg file and click on the Soundflower file to start the installation process.
3. 3 Follow the instructions on the screen. Enter your password to proceed with the installation.
4. 4 Adjust the sound. Open system preferences and click on the sound bar. In the "Output" tab, select "Soundflower (2ch)" as the sound device.

   1. Setting up Soundflower. Open the Soundflowerbed app. It is located in the Soundflower folder, which is located in the Applications directory. A black flower icon will appear next to the system clock.
   2. Click on the Soundflowerbed icon and select “Audio Setup” from the menu.
   3. Make sure Soundflower (2ch) is selected as the audio device on the Audio Devices tab.
   4. Also make sure the Speakers / Headphone option is checked in the Sunflowerbed menu. This will allow you to listen to the sound while recording it.
6. 6 Download Audacity from the site http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac Download the software version that matches your hardware.
7. 7 Install Audacity. Open the downloaded .dmg file. Drag Audacity to the folder where you want to save the program.
8. 8 Setting up Audacity.
   1. Start Audacity. The Audacity First Run dialog box opens. Select the correct language and click OK.
   2. Open the "Audacity" dropdown menu and click "Preferences".
   3. Make sure Soundflower (2 ch) is selected as the recording device on the Audio I / O tab.
9. 9 Play audio in a properly configured app. The settings for each application will be different, but set either the system sound or Soundflower (2ch) as the sound device in any application. Your browser must support the described settings without additional configuration; to test it, open YouTube and play any video (with sound).
10. 10 Record audio in Audacity. To do this, press the big red button on the main screen.
