Coconut oil is an excellent natural hair conditioner that helps keep hair healthy, dandruff free, and at the same time, brings a glossy shine to the hair. However, because coconut oil is too thick and greasy, it is difficult to wash it off with just water and shampoo. To get rid of excess oil, use a rinse-free hair cleanser such as dry shampoo, cornstarch or baby powder. You can also try incubating your hair with eggs, lemon juice or baking soda. After you rinse with water, these ingredients will wash away the excess coconut oil, leaving hair clean and silky.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: Cleaning with natural ingredients

  1. Remove oil with citric acid in lemon juice. Squeeze 2 lemons into a bowl and mix in 8 ounces of water. Put the mixture on your hair and scalp, wait a few minutes, then rinse with warm water. Excess oil will drift along this mixture.
    • You can also add a few teaspoons of honey to this mixture to soften your hair.

  2. Add 5 ml of aloe vera gel to the shampoo. Rub the mixture evenly over hair and scalp until lather. Leave the mixture on your hair for 10-15 minutes, then rinse it off. Aloe vera and shampoo will knock the coconut oil out of your scalp.
  3. Use egg water to remove oils and boost protein for healthy hair. Beat 2 -3 eggs in a bowl. Add 950 ml of water and stir to form a custard mixture. Apply this mixture to dry hair and massage evenly. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, then rinse with lukewarm water. After you rinse your hair, the coconut oil is gone.
    • Do not use hot or even warm water to rinse eggs, as high heat can ripen eggs in your hair. To minimize ripening of the eggs, keep the water temperature from getting too hot.

  4. Use a baking soda mixture for oily skin. Mix 1-2 tablespoons (7-14g) of baking soda with a little water to make a paste. Rub this mixture over hair roots and scalp while hair is dry. Concentrate in the oil-rich areas such as the vortex behind the top of the head. After you have rubbed the mixture all over the oily areas, rinse your hair with warm water. The powder layer will be rinsed easily, wrapped in coconut oil.
    • Do not apply this mixture to the rest of your hair, only focus on the scalp.
    • Baking soda will absorb coconut oil without getting sticky.

Method 2 of 2: Use the mixture without rinsing

  1. Choose a dry shampoo or a powder shampoo to absorb the oil. Whether in the form of a spray or a powder, dry shampoo is great for clearing hair and removing residual coconut oil.
    • If you prefer more natural ingredients, you can use cornstarch, baking soda, beetroot powder or baby powder.
    • Avoid products that contain talcum powder - ingredients that have been shown to be linked to health problems.
  2. Rub the powder over the hairline. When your hair is dry, sprinkle a little powder around the top of your head. Sprinkle a small amount first and add gradually if not enough, up to about a teaspoon of powder. You should sprinkle concentrated on the roots because this is where the most oil.
    • Do not use more than one teaspoon of dry shampoo as it can dry out your scalp.
  3. Comb your hair to absorb excess oil. Continue brushing until the powder melts into your hair and achieves the smooth shine you want. If your hair is dark, these powders can leave tiny white streaks or particles on your hair.
    • To get rid of the white streak from the powder, you can rinse it with a liquid shampoo and rinse it off.

Advice

  • You can also use a hair deep cleansing shampoo.
  • Always rinse hair with warm water (unless you use custard). Cold water will make the coconut oil thicken and stick more tightly on the hair, making them become more "stubborn".
  • Note: when using coconut oil, a moderate dose will bring a better effect. You should start with a little and add a little bit if needed, which will make it easier to wash off the coconut oil.
