Ever wanted to be followed by the gaze when you walk through the door? A fan of heavy metal or glam rock, a true rocker monitors the appearance, reputation, presentation. With a little confidence and a little wardrobe, anyone can look like they've just stepped off the bus for a tour. What are you waiting for? Get started now!

Steps

1. 1 Do your research. Rock style can vary from ultra-glam to grunge, depending on the audience and genre. If you're looking for inspiration, watch a couple of live shows and see what people in the audience are wearing may give you a better impression of what rock style to aim for.
2. 2 Practice attitude. Realize that looking like a rocker is more of a lifestyle than a fashion statement or trend. Rock and roll is about breaking rules and pushing boundaries - no matter what people think. Trends come and go, but the spirit of rock and roll is timeless (and free!).
3. 3 Find a role model. Think of a rocker whose style inspires you. They most likely have a few signature pieces known for being worn over and over again - whether it's purple corduroy (Prince) or a classic white tee (Springsteen). Pick one or two pieces that embody the style you are striving for; then build the rest of your wardrobe around them.
4. 4 Don't overcomplicate when shopping. Thrift stores are the main source of key rock style items. The clothes are cheap and already worn (so it looks like you've been wearing them on tour for months). And when in doubt, always go for the smaller size. The rock gods are not known for wearing baggy clothes. Here are a few items to look for:
   • Leather Jacket
   • Any ripped jeans
   • Vintage T-shirts
   • Frayed Doc Martens Boots and Cowboy Boots
   • Corduroy jacket
   • Accessories such as chains, studded belts and scarves
5. 5 Add lots of music-related T-shirts to your wardrobe. The more confusing the band or the more vintage the T-shirt, the better. But do your research - if you're going to wear a band's T-shirt, make sure you can name at least a couple of their albums. At the end of the day, rocker looks won't get you far by appearing to be a poser.
6. 6 Buy rock 'n' roll shoes. Chucks, Vans, leather, cowboy boots, and more are fine - especially if they are slightly worn. Heels are fine too, but only if they look like the ones you could jump on stage with. Swap them out and have multiple pairs to keep you looking flawless.
7. 7 Add accessories and decorate. Got a plain jacket or belt? Update it in a rock and roll style by adding one (or all) of the following:
   • Metal spikes
   • Patches
   • Safety pins
   • Chains
8. 8 Have a trendy rock style haircut. If you feel motivated enough, you can lighten the ends, make a mohawk, or try bright colors. Don't want any styling problems? Opt for grunge instead - messy, tousled hair will provide the perfect “Just out of bed and don't give a damn” look. Or you can skip a couple of showers. (Just make sure you don't smell bad.)
9. 9 Just in moderation. The black tee is a rock 'n' roll classic, but black from head to toe leads into Goth territory. Likewise, if you want to flaunt in torn jeans, make sure your T-shirt isn't in holes either - otherwise you might cross the line between rebelliousness and vagrancy.
10. 10 Don't think too long! If you are a rocker, you are probably wearing the clothes that were on the floor after the crazy party the night before. You don't need to look like you've been thinking too long about your image. Who cares if you're sloppy? You steer! Sloppy is natural.

• Stay up to date. If you are going to walk this road, you should be able to have a conversation and discuss your musical taste.
• Be honest with yourself. The whole purpose is to show who you are and how much you love this most amazing of musical genres.
• Buy CDs from local bands and lesser known bands. Read reviews and discover the rock genre.

• Don't be a poser. If you cannot intelligently talk about the masters of rock music and their influence, you may be mocked.
• Don't look too polished or collected. Which rock star you know looks like that?
• Understand the quirks of rock and practice it before you embrace the style. Live by the motto: sex, drugs (optional) and rock and roll.
