Have you ever punched a wheel of your car with a nail, self-tapping screw, or any other sharp object? Once you change the wheel, you can tape the tire yourself if you have the necessary tools and these instructions on hand.

Steps

  1. 1 Mark where your tire is punctured. If you can't see it at first glance, spray soapy water on the tire and look for the spot where the bubbles appear. If the puncture is still not visible, widespread air leaks are on both sides of the tire beads (where the tire rests against the rim). Another such location may be the tire nipple (nipple). Once you find a puncture or air leak, mark it so you don't lose it!
  2. 2 Remove the tire from the rim on a tire changer using these instructions (if you don't have a tire changer, watch the video below):
    • Unscrew the spool from the nipple (the pointed rubber valve through which the tire is inflated).
    • Press off the beads of the tires from the rim, which tightly adhere to the rims, thereby retaining air in the tire (from the front and rear side of the wheel).
    • Mount the wheel to the tire changer and place the working head (swing arm) on the rim of the disc.
    • Insert a lever between the top bead of the tire and the rim, using the head as a fulcrum for the mount.
    • Turn the machine table clockwise, as a result of this the top bead of the tire will gradually come off the rim.
    • Repeat the previous two steps to remove the lower tire bead.
  3. 3 Use a special tool with a sharp tip screwing it into the puncture site. This will roughen the surface and clean up the hole where the patch will be installed.
  4. 4 Change the accessory to a grinding stone. Apply pre polishing cleaner inside the tire around the hole. Using a grinding stone, scrape the hole and around the inside of the tire (about 5 cm in diameter). This will prepare a clean surface for the patch to be installed.
  5. 5 After stripping is complete, blow all debris out of the tire with compressed air.
  6. 6 Apply vulcanizing adhesive to the scraped surface of the hole on the inside of the tire. This will prevent water from entering the hole and moving further along the tire tread. Wait until the glue is tacky to the touch.
  7. 7 Remove the tape from the adhesive side of the patch.
  8. 8 Take the pointed part of the patch (the tip of the fungus) and push it into the hole from the inside, pushing it out of the tire. Use pliers to grasp the pointed end of the patch. Pull this part of the patch upward away from the tire tread. The adhesive portion of the patch should now fit snugly against the scraped surface.
  9. 9 Use a roller to roll up the patch from the inside of the tire. This will remove any air bubbles between the patch and the cleaned surface. The patch is now properly seated on the tire.
  10. 10 Apply tire sealant to the inside of the tire, covering the entire patch and a small area around it. This is done to make sure there are no air leaks at all!
  11. 11 Let it dry for a couple of minutes. While you wait, grab a pair of wire cutters or scissors and cut the shaft of the patch flush with the protector.
  12. 12 Lubricate the tire beads on both sides. Place the working head on the rim of the rim and place the lower edge of the tire under the surface of the head. Rotate the machine table clockwise until the bottom bead of the tire is in the middle or bottom of the rim. Place the top bead of the tire under the working head and turn the machine table clockwise until the tire is on the rim. Remove the working head.
  13. 13 Inflate the tire to the pressure specified by the manufacturer. If these steps were performed correctly, you have just glued your tires.
