1 Soak your nails in warm, soapy water to loosen the glue. Fill a small saucer with warm water and add a few drops of hand soap. Dip your fingertips in water and wait 10 minutes until your nails are saturated with moisture.
  • While your nails are soaking in soapy water, try loosening them a little. This will allow the water to reach and loosen the adhesive.
  • After about 10 minutes, take your fingers out of the water and try to peel off your nails.
  • 2 Apply some cuticle oil. Cuticle softening oil can also loosen false nails. Apply a few drops of oil to the areas under the false nails and wait a few minutes.
    • After a few minutes, try loosening your nails to see if they can now be removed.
    • If the nail is too tight, do not try to pull it off.
  • 3 Use a cuticle pusher to loosen your nail. Slide the pusher under the false nail and slowly peel it off. Insert the sharp end of an orange stick between the natural nail and the false nail. Then start slowly swinging the pusher back and forth to loosen the nail.
    • Move the pusher from the beginning of the cuticle to the tip of the nail. Do not start at the tip, going against the growth of the nail.
  • 4 Scrape off any remaining glue. Remove any glue from the false nails. This can be done with a cuticle pusher.
    • If the glue doesn't work, try soaking your nails in warm water or applying a little nail polish remover.
  • Method 2 of 3: Using nail polish remover

    1. 1 Dip your nails in nail polish remover. If you are unable to loosen your false nails with warm water and cuticle softening oil, try using nail polish remover. Pour nail polish remover into a saucer, then dip your nails in it all the way down to the cuticles. Soak your nails for a few minutes, after which you pull out your fingertips and make sure the false nails can be peeled off.
      • In order for the nail polish remover to dissolve the glue, it must contain acetone, otherwise nothing will work.
    2. 2 Blot the edges of your false nails with nail polish remover. If you don't want to soak your fingertips in nail polish remover, apply some with a cotton ball.
      • To loosen the glue, the nail polish remover must seep under the false nail.
    3. 3 Peel off your nails when the glue looses slightly. As the nail polish remover works, the adhesive will begin to loosen. Try removing your nails when this happens. If the glue looses enough, separate the false nails with your fingers, if not, loosen the nails with a cuticle pusher.
      • Take your time, even if it seems to you that the nail is no longer holding anything. Pulling too hard can damage your nail.
    4. 4 Rinse off the acetone and moisturize your hands. Since the acetone in nail polish remover dries out your skin, be sure to take good care of it after peeling your nails off. Wash your hands and nails with warm water and mild soap. Dry your hands and apply moisturizer to your hands and nails.

Method 3 of 3: How to Repair Damage Caused by False Nails

    1. 1 Do not use nail polish or false nails for several days. The nails will heal on their own, but it will take a few days. To help your nails recover, do not use nail polish or false nails for several days.
      • Apply a few drops of cuticle softening oil to give your nails a natural shine while they heal.
    2. 2 Trim your nails so they don't break. Removing false nails can make natural nails more brittle and should be trimmed to avoid accidental fractures. Use nail clippers for shorter nails.
      • If you already have short nails, just file them with a nail file.
    3. 3 Polish your nails to smooth out rough spots. When the false nails were removed, part of the nail plate could be damaged, leaving natural nails rough and uneven. Polish your nails gently to repair some of the damage.
      • Smooth out any rough areas of your nails with a small buff.
    4. 4 Recover lost moisture. After you peel off the false nails, apply a moisturizer to your hands and renew it often as your nails rebuild. Keep a small bottle of hand cream in your purse or on your desk so you can always have it close at hand.
    5. 5 Before using your false nails again, apply a protective coat of polish. Protect your nails by applying several protective coats of clear polish. This will create a barrier between the nails and the glue.
