Windows Update (WU) is a Microsoft service that provides regular updates for Windows components and other Microsoft software. These updates can be avoided to avoid significant data usage. This article will show you how to turn off Windows Update to get the most out of your Internet connection.

To step

1. Open the Start menu Type windows update. The search term is searched for.
2. Select the corresponding results. You can find this at the top of the Start menu.
3. Open the Windows Update settings. Select "Change Settings" in the top part of the left pane.
4. Open the drop-down menu under the heading "Important updates". The list shows the different ways you can manage Windows updates. The options are as follows:
   • Install updates automatically (recommended): Selecting this option will automate the entire process of downloading and installing the updates. This feature is only recommended if you have high or unlimited bandwidth. Windows updates consist of large files and a regular download can lead to high data usage.
   • Download updates but let me decide if I want to install them: This option is only suitable if you have sufficient bandwidth but limited hard disk space. Windows will download the updates and you can choose which updates to install and which not.
   • Check for updates but let me decide if I want to download and install them: Choose this option to have Windows scan for available updates, but leave the decision as to whether or not to download and install them.
   • Never check for updates (not recommended): This option prevents Windows from searching, downloading, or installing updates. Choosing this option will in no way cause the system to malfunction.
5. Disable Windows Update. Select "Never check for updates (not recommended)" at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
6. Save your changes. Click on the gray OK button at the bottom of the page.
