Gliding is a form of street hip-hop dance that is associated with popping. It is also closely related to Michael Jackson's moonwalk. In sliding, like in dance, your feet alternately move from toe to heel, and so move along the floor to create the illusion that your body is sliding in smooth movements. Gliding is often done sideways or in a circular motion. Having learned to transfer weight from foot to foot, as smoothly as liquid flows from vessel to vessel, and after regular training you will be able to understand what sliding is. This article will show you how to learn to slide.

Steps

  1. 1 Find a flat, smooth surface on which to practice gliding. Practice in front of a mirror, if possible
  2. 2 Wear comfortable shoes with smooth soles and always stand straight with feet shoulder-width apart.
  3. 3 Rotate your right foot so that your big toe is facing outward and lift your right heel. Shift your body weight to your right leg. You should be able to lift your left leg and shift it easily, as there is no weight on it.
  4. 4 Slide your left foot to the side and turn it as you turned your right.
  5. 5 Move your left heel as you moved your right heel down. Change the position of your heels all the time: one heel down and one up. Make sure your body weight is shifted to the other leg each time you change legs, as this will allow you to move your legs more easily.
  6. 6 Bring your right heel down and turn your toe inward. Move it to the side towards the left leg.
  7. 7 Swap your toe and heel so that your right toes point up and out and your left heel down and in. Your feet should be very close together, and your right heel should be above your left toes.
  8. 8 Slide with your left foot to get to the starting position.
  9. 9 Repeat these steps again until you can move calmly and smoothly. Change the position of your legs to slide in the opposite direction.
  10. 10 Change direction by rotating your body 90 degrees, shifting your body weight from your left leg to your right leg and vice versa. Slide your foot in a new direction with each step.
  11. 11 Dance in a circle. Glide with your right foot behind your left, then rotate your left foot into a diagonal position rather than straight. Repeat the movement with both legs and you will dance very fluidly in a circular motion.
  12. 12 Ready!

Tips

  • Move your arms up and down in smooth movements as you slide, while keeping your shoulders steady and level. This will make your glide look more natural.
  • To glide better, practice. Repeat 25 to 50 times a day. Also, always change the position of your legs.
