While we don't want to talk about it or even think about it, crime is on the rise in America and around the world. The number of burglars, robbers, car thieves, thieves, pickpockets and other criminals is growing every day. Now you, as a resident, by cooperating with your neighbors, can reduce the crime rate.

Steps

1. 1 Organize and / or join a neighborhood-led group that you will gather and learn how to protect yourself, your families, your home and your property. By working together, you can get rid of criminals in your area.
2. 2 Stay in groups. Group work is safer and more efficient. You will get to know your neighbors better, and by working with them you can reduce crime, develop a more inclusive community, provide communication with police and citizens, install crime prevention equipment, and renew citizens' interest in community activities.
3. 3 Make use of citizen safety projects. They are created to help you with this. This is a joint work of the townspeople and the police. Such programs have begun throughout the country. Perhaps one of them already exists in your association. These organizations do not require frequent meetings (once a month or so).They do not require everyone to take risks in crime prevention. They leave responsibility for catching criminals to the police. This is not a vigilance committee. These groups bring city dwellers together to learn from local authorities how to prevent crime. You work with your neighbors to report suspicious activity in your area, look after homes when residents are away, and remind everyone to be alert to safety precautions. Criminals avoid areas where such groups exist.
4. 4 Find out what you need to know. Through working with local law enforcement officials, you will learn things like this for free:
   • What to do in an emergency.
   • How to best identify a suspicious person.
   • How to identify a vehicle that has been used in suspicious criminal activity.
   • Signs that you need to pay attention to when entering a house or apartment, which can be robbed at this moment.
   • What to do in case of injury.
   • What to do with suspicious persons who hang around your street.
   • How to identify stolen items.
   • How to determine if a car is being stolen.
   • How to protect your home or apartment.
   • How to determine if a robbery is taking place.
   • How to protect yourself and your family, and much more.
5. 5 All you have to do is contact your neighbors and set a date, place and time for the first meeting. Hold a meeting at your home or with your neighbors. Try to schedule a time that is convenient for everyone - ideally in the evening. Then call your local police station. They will be happy to give your group some lectures, free literature, and window stickers and ID cards anyway.
6. 6 Remember, cops cannot be everywhere. Your cooperation with them will help you, your family, your neighbors and your community.
