If your washing machine suddenly stops and refuses to work, and there is still a lot of water in it, then it will not be possible to repair it until the water is pumped out. This article explains how to manually drain the washing machine.

Steps

1. 1 Take a bucket and a towel. Disconnect the washing machine from the electrical outlet.
2. 2 Find the sewer pipe. The water from the washing machine is drained into a sewer pipe. It is usually located either under the sink or next to it. You may need to move the washing machine to get to the pipe.
3. 3 Disconnect the drain hose from the sewer pipe. Keep the hose upright.
4. 4 Dip the hose into the bucket. The water will start to drain into the bucket due to the force of gravity. When the bucket is full, simply raise the hose above the level of the washing machine and the water flow will stop.
5. 5 Pour the water from the bucket into the sink. Continue until all the water has drained out of the washing machine. Tips

• If the water is not flowing, or is flowing slowly, this can be for several reasons:
  • There may be no or too little water left in the washing machine to drain as the wash cycle may be almost complete.
  • If the filter is clogged, water may flow out in a thin trickle or not at all. In this case, you will have to first clean the filter, and then proceed with further actions.
• The same method can be used for dishwashers as well.
