Latios is a great Legendary Pokemon, but can be very difficult to catch! While finding Latios is a matter of luck, catching it can be quite tricky! However, with a little preparation this shouldn't be a problem.

To step

Method 1 of 2: With a Masterball

  1. Defeat the four Elite. Latios will not be available until this is completed.
  2. Once the credits are in and you are in your house in Little Root, go downstairs and watch TV. You will learn about a blue flying Pokemon that roams around Hoenn. This is Latios.
  3. Have your Masterball ready. The best method is to save your Masterball for Latios, as it tends to flee. If you did not save the Masterball, please see the next part of this article.
  4. Travel to a suitable area. Latios is a roaming Pokemon and can be found everywhere. To make it easier to catch Latios, you will need to move to an area where you can reload more easily, such as opening a cave near a field, with a secret power.
  5. Find Latios. Search around in the grass or other environment until you find the Latios. Don't waste your time fighting another Pokemon; avoid fighting. If you haven't found Latios in a certain area within 5 minutes, get out of the area and then return.
  6. Throw the Masterball. When you come across latios, immediately throw the Masterball. Congratulations! You captured Latios!

Method 2 of 2: Without a Masterball

  1. Have your Pokemon ready. You will need Level 40 Pokemon to take on Latios. Grab a Trapinch or a Wobbuffet or other powerful Pokemon with Mean Look (such as a Zubat or Golbat from Victory Road). Give a Pokemon with Mean Look the Quick Claw ability and buy a pair of Carbos for it (to ensure top speed). Place this Pokemon at the front of your group.
    • Wobuffet and Trapinch are useful because their Shadow Tag (Wobuffet) and Arena Trap (Trapinch) skills will keep Latios from escaping.
  2. Buy loads of Ultra balls. This is best used for catching Latios. A regular Pokeball is not recommended.
  3. Use your skills. If you chose Trapinch or Wobuffet, trim his HP and throw in loads of Ultra balls. Otherwise, use Mean Look right at the beginning of the battle. If you make Latios pass out, reset. If he escapes, you can now track them with a Pokedex, in the same way as tracking Legendary dogs in G / S / C.

Tips

  • Don't be discouraged if you don't find it quickly. Be aware that this can take a while and you may not be lucky.
  • Using a fast Pokemon with Mean Look is better than using one that has Arena Trap as a skill. After Mean Look, you can switch to a Pokemon with False Swipe.
  • Sometimes just flying around will be enough to put the Latios to flight every time you get close. If this happens, you may have to walk and look around to find it, instead of flying.

Warnings

  • Latios are gone in no time when you fly close. Fly as close as possible and then go for a walk or bike ride. If you walk, the chances are greater than he will stay put.
  • If you have a white whistle (A whistle that can lure a Pokemon), use it.
  • If you don't have a Wobbafett or Trapinch, use Zubat or Golbat.
