Decorating a house for the New Year is fun and interesting, but often New Year's decorations are quite expensive. This article will tell you how to make them yourself: the pleasure will be even more, and the costs will be much less!

Method 1 of 2: Christmas decorations

1. 1 Frosty pine cones. They are surprisingly easy to make at home from the most common pine cones. Pick some nicely shaped buds and place them on the newspaper. Then take a white spray paint and spray on one side of the buds. Let the paint dry for a couple of minutes and then paint the other side. From the end where the petiole was, glue a white satin ribbon loop to each cone to hang on the tree.
   • You can paint the bump completely, or you can paint it only on top, as if it was covered with snow.
2. 2 Vintage jewelry made from old metal objects. You can make retro-style decorations from old bakeware found at flea markets and old-fashion stores. Glue ribbons and several different sized molds and hang them on the tree. In the same way, you can hang old keys on the tree by tying ribbons to them.
   • If you wish, you can paint the keys white or decorate their heads with cheap brooches.
3. 3 Frames with decorative patches or embroidery. Cheap frames, especially metal frames, can add some chic to your tree.Buy a few small frames and pick up pieces of fabric to insert into them: for example, New Year's motifs or plaids, pieces of knitted fabric, mini-embroidery or pieces of vintage lace. Remove the cardboard backing from the frame and stretch the fabric over it. Secure the fabric with a few strong stitches or hot glue. Glue a loop of ribbon to the frame and hang it on the tree.
   • If you have plain white fabric and markers, you can also stretch the fabric and paint or write with your children.
4. 4 Transparent balls with objects inside. These balls, made of plain clear glass or plastic, are quite cheap and look good on their own, but are even better for decoration. Close the ball on top (or fasten it if it is detachable) and attach the ribbon.
   • Putting an object inside the ball is just one of the decor options. You can build an entire stage by pouring fake snow into a ball and placing a miniature Christmas tree or snowman there, or you can take glitter paint and paint the ball with patterns. Unleash your imagination!
   • To make an original ball with a window, you will need an elastic band and a circle or oval made of paper or other material. Place the oval where you want to make the window, aligning its widest point with the middle of the ball, and carefully slide the elastic on top. The elastic should run along the "equator" of the ball. Hang the ball and spray 1-2 coats of paint on it to create the effect of frozen glass. When the paint is dry, carefully remove the oval and gum. You will have a "frosty" ball with a transparent oval window and a thin transparent line in the middle.
5. 5 Homemade drum. Small drums are one of the traditional Christmas tree decorations. Obtain small round boxes, paint or tape over to your liking, and decorate around the perimeter with shiny twisted thread or narrow ribbon. Make a loop of ribbon to hang the drum from the tree.
   • Make multiple drums in different sizes and / or colors for a real parade!
6. 6 Shell jewelry. Seashells are in themselves an elegant decoration, it is enough to glue a loop of gold or silver cord to them, but decorating a seashell is also easy. Apply clear glue to one or both sides of the shell, and then sprinkle heavily with sparkles (glitter) to make it sparkle and shimmer. Cover only selected areas with glue and glitter so that the shiny and matte surface alternates, or make a thin shiny line that emphasizes the spiral of the shell.

Method 2 of 2: Other decorations

1. 1 Christmas tree toy in a frame. This is a smart and elegant wall decoration that can be made in 15 minutes. First, take a beautiful Christmas tree toy, insert a ribbon into it and tie it. Then take a simple wooden frame (you can paint it if you want to match it in color with the toy). Attach the ribbon to the top of the frame (inside out) and adjust the length: the Christmas tree decoration should hang in the center of the frame. Mark the desired length and glue the tape to the frame with hot glue or nail it down. Now you can hang the frame with the Christmas tree decoration on the wall.
2. 2 Snowballs. They can be laid out on a shelf or on a windowsill. In appearance, this original decoration resembles a large snowflake, dandelion or snow porcupine. You will need some Styrofoam balls and lots of toothpicks. The ball needs to be stuck all over with toothpicks, placing them as close to each other as possible. Then line up the toothpicks so that they stick out about the same length, and paint the resulting snowball with white spray paint. Make some of these snowballs and place them on the shelf.
   • You can use foam balls of different diameters and make snowballs of different sizes.
3. 3 Party napkin rings. Place one or two small Christmas tree balls on a thin ribbon. Tie a wide ribbon with a bow (this will be the napkin ring), and tie a ribbon with balls in the middle of the bow.Use two different colors, such as blue and silver, to make it look prettier.
   • If you have a simple serving, without linen napkins and rings for them, you can make it more elegant by simply tying a knife and fork with a satin ribbon.
4. 4 Decorated candlestick. This is a very simple, quick and effective way to make your table look more elegant. First, place the candle in a candlestick, glass, or wine glass of a suitable size, and then wrap it in the middle or around the base with something festive. It can be a red velvet ribbon with a beautiful bow, a strip cut from the sleeve of an old sweater, a wreath of coniferous branches.
   • You can use small jars for jam as candlesticks: it will look cozy at home.
5. 5 Decorated wreath. There are an incredible variety of options for New Year's and Christmas wreaths - to glue fruits or nuts to the base for a wreath, wrap it in cloth, thickly decorate it with balls - but still a wreath made of coniferous branches, live or artificial, remains classic. Buy a wreath like this, and then do not limit your imagination. You can attach cards with the names of family members to the wreath, stick flowers, leaves or fruits into it on plastic sticks.
   • You can decorate a wreath in the same way as you decorate a Christmas tree, only the toys should not be hung, but tied by a loop directly to the branches. Choose a couple of sizes and colors for a professional-looking wreath.
