A wrinkled and wrinkled rug not only looks untidy but can also cause injury! You can hire a professional to stretch your rug, and this is a great solution for old rugs. But if you want to save money and try to pull the rug yourself, this article is for you!

Steps

  1. 1 Remove the old carpet first, pull out all the nails, and slowly drag the carpet. Try to grip the corner of the carpet with pliers and pull gently. The carpet can then be moved.
    • Remember, in order not to pull the carpet from all sides at once, you need to try with only one first.
    • Don't pull too hard - you could damage or even tear the carpet!
  2. 2 Make sure to remove all staples and nails before attempting to remove the carpet from the floor. Raise the rug slightly on one side first and turn that side with the liner outward, then pull out the remaining nails.
  3. 3 Use a screwdriver or other sharp object to remove the old attachment strips from the back of the carpet. Wear work gloves when working with tools to avoid injuring your hands with sharp objects.
    • Fold the old attachment strips into a box or throw them away directly into the trash can. The work area must be clean, try to remove all sharp objects immediately after use so as not to accidentally injure yourself.
  4. 4 Mark where the new attachment stripes will be. To do this, measure about 0.6 cm from the wall (if necessary, cut off the old attachment strips). Place the new attachment strips so that the gripping teeth on the top side (sharp nails that will hold the carpet) are facing the wall. The chisel should be placed on top of these prongs (the ones facing the floor) and driven into the floor.
  5. 5 You will need some tools to complete the job: stretcher, kicker and carpet cutter (buy or better rent for a few hours these tools immediately after attaching new strips, this will save you time).
    • "Bite" the carpet with sharp teeth on one end, and put brackets on the opposite end. This way, you can stretch the carpet in the largest rooms. Additional tools can be purchased to calculate the length of the stretching room.
    • The kicker is used to stretch the carpet in small rooms where the stretcher is difficult to fit. It can be used for large rooms too.
    • A carpet cutter comes in handy if you need to trim excess pieces of carpet. This is much better than using a knife for this purpose.
  6. 6 Use a cutter to cut the backing along the attachment strip, approximately 2.5 cm away from it.
    • Cut diagonally in the corners of the room and around doorways to make sure everything fits.
  7. 7 Place the rug back on the floor while pressing firmly on the stretcher (stretcher) about 15 cm from the edge of the rug. Smooth out the folds.
  8. 8 If you cannot push the lever on the stretcher, then you have pulled the carpet too tight. If you've stretched the carpet normally, you won't need much effort to move the lever.
  9. 9 Once you've stretched the rug all over the room, remove the stretcher.
  10. 10 Place the kicker head about 15 cm away from the wall and use your feet to complete the pull on this section.
  11. 11 Attach the stretched edge of the carpet with an attachment strip.
  12. 12 Now move to the other stretched edge of the carpet, cut it and attach it as in the previous step.
    • If you need to cut something, use a carpet cutter. Cut slowly and carefully.
