The ninja costume should be dark, inconspicuous and comfortable so as not to hinder movement. Such a suit can be made completely without sewing from a black turtleneck, wide black trousers and a short thin black robe. You will also need a black scarf, black ribbon, tall black boots, a black long-sleeved T-shirt, and black gloves. Use four red or black T-shirts to make protective leg wraps. Complement the resulting ninja costume with accessories such as fake shurikens and you're ready to go!

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Top of the suit and pants

  1. 1 Tuck a black turtleneck into wide black pants. Put on the black long-sleeved turtleneck first. Then put on wide and slightly oversized black straight-leg pants (cargo pants).
    • If you do not have a black turtleneck, you can use a white one, but the rest of the suit will also have to be made white.
    • If you don't have wide black pants, try black leotards, skinny jeans, or leggings.
  2. 2 Tie up the pants at the ankles with small pieces of black tape. Regular cargo pants have the same leg width all the way down, but real ninja pants taper at the ankles. To achieve the same visual effect, use black tape to tie your pants just above your ankles. Tie the ribbon in secure knots.
  3. 3 Take a black kimono or a short black robe. A real kimono may be somewhat expensive, and can be perfectly replaced with a short black satin (or cotton) robe. The dressing gown can be found in the nearest clothing stores. Check that the purchased robe must be with a belt!
    • If you can't find a solid black robe, look for a robe with a pattern in a bold, saturated color (such as red, blue, green, or white). For example, a minimal floral pattern of the mentioned colors would be perfectly acceptable.
    • Alternatively, you can simply grab the darkest solid color robe the store offers (red and white ninja suits are also common).
  4. 4 Slip your robe over your turtleneck and pants. Put it on in the same way as you usually put on a robe, and then straighten it so that you feel comfortable in it. Pull the sash of the robe around your waist with a knot.
  5. 5 Put on a pair of black gloves. Gloves made of any material (leather, wool, knitwear) are suitable for you - the main thing is that they are black. Tuck the cuffs of the gloves into the sleeves of the turtleneck.
  6. 6 Wrap a black scarf around your upper torso. When you tie the scarf around the top of your torso (from the middle of your chest to your navel), it will appear as a very wide belt from the front. Grasp the ends of the scarf and tie them tightly behind your back. Use safety pins to secure the position of the scarf to the suit.
    • To look neat, do not let the loose ends of the scarf hang down, but tuck them under the main cloth.
  7. 7 Tuck your pants into black ankle-length boots. Wear black boots. Tuck the bottoms of the legs into the boot before you lace them up. Then lace up the boots in the usual way, thereby securing the pant legs.

Part 2 of 3: Hood and Mask

  1. 1 Slip your head into the neck of your long-sleeved shirt, stopping at ear and nose height. In other words, pass your head only halfway through the neck. The top of the neckline of the T-shirt should be on the bridge of your nose and ears.
  2. 2 Fold the main fabric of the T-shirt up to the forehead and behind the head. Adjust the shirt to fit just above your eyebrows. It won't fit snugly yet, just tuck it into place.
  3. 3 Grasp the sleeves of the shirt and tie them behind your head. Tuck the protruding fabric underneath itself so that the T-shirt fits flat on the forehead. Sleeves can be left hanging loose at the back or tucked into the neck of the turtleneck.

Part 3 of 3: Optional Accessories

  1. 1 Use red or black T-shirts to make safety leg wraps. Leg wraps are located on the calves and thighs (just above the knees). To create the windings, you will need to take four T-shirts. You can also use scarves instead of T-shirts if you have them on hand. It is ideal to use red or black, but white is also perfectly acceptable.
  2. 2 Place one T-shirt on your thigh just above the knee. The neck of the T-shirt should be facing up. Tuck the piping inward so that it is not visible. Fold over the excess T-shirt material so that only a 5–7.5 cm wide strip remains.
    • Remember not to thread your leg in T-shirt. The shirt should simply be attached to the top of the leg.
  3. 3 Grasp the sleeves of the shirt and tie them around your leg. Tie the sleeves at the back of your leg. Tuck the knot inward. Also tuck in excess material so that only a 5–7.5 cm wide strip of fabric remains on the leg.
    • It is advisable to knit not only the sleeves of the T-shirt, but also its lower edge on the back of the leg. Remember to tuck the knots and ends of the fabric inward. Follow this procedure with both legs.
  4. 4 Take another T-shirt and tie it around the bottom of your leg. Wrap the T-shirt around your leg at mid-ankle level. Tie the sleeves of the T-shirt at the back, as you did with the thigh tapes. Tuck the knots under the fabric. Do the same with the other leg.
  5. 5 To complete the look, prepare yourself a ninja weapon. You can make a shuriken or ninja sword out of cardboard, or you can buy ready-made plastic weapons from a store that sells carnival costumes or toys and take them with you.If you have nunchucks, take them. If nothing suitable is at hand, be aware that ninja often used a staff as a weapon, so you can take a long broomstick with you or look for a stick that resembles a staff on the street.
  6. 6 Make the weapon yourself. Take cardboard and cut out the outlines of your weapon. Use sealing tape to give the weapon a silvery metal sheen. Use black tape or cloth for the handle.

Tips

  • Remember to tuck in any loose ends of the fabric. If a piece is constantly coming out, take a safety pin and secure this place so that this does not happen again.
  • Be careful not to accidentally tighten the T-shirt bandages too tightly or obstruct normal blood circulation.
  • If you change the color of one of the main elements of the suit (top or pants) to white (or whatever), do not forget to change the color of the rest of the main parts of the suit as well.
  • A white suit is appropriate for a snowy winter.
