While it may not be harmful, the eye mosquitoes are truly annoying. Fortunately, there are ways to trap and destroy these insects without having to buy expensive products. You can treat mosquitoes with household ingredients like apple cider vinegar, soap, sugar, and bleach. The next step is to keep the kitchen as clean as possible to prevent mosquitoes from appearing. If you are disturbed by mosquitoes outside, there are a few simple measures you can take to prevent them from getting close.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Treat mosquito eye

  1. Mix apple cider vinegar, water, sugar, and dish soap to trap mosquitoes. Use 2 tablespoons (30 ml) of apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon (12 g) of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon (2.5 ml) dish soap, and 1/2 cup (120 ml) warm water. Dissolve all of the ingredients in a small bowl and place in a room with mosquitoes. Leave the mixture on overnight and rinse it off the next morning. Repeat as many times as needed.
    • The smell of sugar and vinegar will attract mosquitoes to the bowl of water. When they get close, the soap bubbles will "grab" them and drag them into the water.

Advice: You can also use red wine and dish soap for the same effect. Eye mosquitoes will be attracted to the smell of wine and be sucked into a bowl of water by soap.

  2. Lure the eye mosquito with crushed banana. Eye mosquitoes love rotting fruit, so you can use this to trap them. Crush a banana into a bowl, wrap the top of the bowl with plastic wrap and poke small holes on the surface with a fork. Eye mosquitoes will go through these holes to get in and eat the bananas and won't be able to return.
    • This method won't kill mosquitoes, so be sure to dispose of bananas and food wrap in the outdoor trash. You can even make a disposable bowl trap to throw the whole trap away for convenience.

  3. Dilute the bleach and pour it into the drainage holes if the mosquitoes often gather there. Mix 1/2 cup (120 ml) of bleach with 3.8 liters of water and slowly pour it down into the drain. Diluted bleach will kill any eye mosquitoes that live in the sewer pipe. Do this every day until you can't see any more mosquitoes.

Warning: Wear a mask and protective gloves when using bleach. Another good idea is to wear old clothes in case bleach hits you.

  4. Spray a mixture of water, vinegar and dish soap into the mosquitoes. Mix 1 cup (240 ml) of water, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of vinegar, and 1/4 teaspoon of dish soap in a spray bottle. Spray this mixture on the eye mosquitoes every time you see them hovering over an area.
    • This is a great non-toxic solution for eye mosquito. It will not damage furniture and also harm plants, pets or children.
  5. Kill mosquitoes with candles and a bowl of soapy water. Place the candle in a bowl or tray containing a little water mixed with soap (about 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap is enough). Light candles, close curtains, and turn off all the lights. Eye mosquitoes will fly in because they are attracted to the candle or the reflection of the candle on the water. The candle will burn the mosquito's wings, and the soapy water will drown them.

Warning: Never light candles unattended, and do not place the trap near fabric items or in areas prone to spillage.

Method 2 of 3: Clean up anything that attracts mosquitoes

  1. Throw away fruit that has started to rot or store fresh food in the refrigerator. The fruit-loving eye mosquito begins to ripen - the sweet smell will attract them to fly to the flock. You should keep fruit in the refrigerator whenever possible. If you find the fruit on the table starts to rot or attract mosquitoes, throw it out immediately or compost.
    • Likewise, if you leave food crumbs to compost, do not throw them in an exposed kitchen bucket. Use a container with a lid or immediately throw it out into the compost pile.
  2. Do not leave dirty dishes in the sink. Eye mosquito likes to stay in humid areas, especially where food debris is spilled. You should try to wash the dishes or put them in the dishwasher right after eating. At the very least, you should wash your dishes and sinks at the end of the day to prevent mosquitoes from coming in.
    • Do not leave cooked food on the table for longer than 30 minutes. You should store the food in a disposable box and keep it in the refrigerator as soon as possible.
    • If your sink has a trashcan, make sure you run it after washing the dishes so food crumbs do not build up there.
  3. Take out trash every day if there are food crumbs in the trash. You may not need to do this with trash cans that do not contain food scraps in other rooms, but kitchen trash must be thrown out at the end of the day to prevent mosquito bins from flying in.
    • Likewise, if you leave your trash open outside, don't leave it near a window. Eye mosquitoes can reach the trash can and find their way in through the windows.

Advice: Buy trash cans with tight lids. Open trash can be an attractive invitation for mosquitoes, while closed trash will prevent them from near food debris and trash inside.

  4. Take plants in damp soil outdoors if they attract mosquitoes. If you see mosquitoes clustering around the pot of your favorite plants, it may be that the soil in the pot is too moist and needs to be dried off. Take the pot out or into the garage for a few days until the soil starts to dry. If it still doesn't work, you may have to replant the tree in new soil.
    • On the other hand, there are a number of plants that help keep mosquitoes away. These plants can be planted in pots and placed indoors, or in a garden if you're dealing with mosquitoes outside. Geranium, lemon basil, lavender and marigold are the best natural mosquito repellants.

Method 3 of 3: Prevent eye mosquitoes from flying near people

  1. Put a piece of clothes drying scented paper in your pocket to keep mosquitoes away when you are outdoors. Lavender and lemon mints are good options. You just put a piece of fragrant paper in your pocket or wrap it around a leech with your waistline, and naturally, the mosquitoes do not dare come near.
    • In addition to preventing mosquitoes, drying fabric can also help repel mosquitoes.
    • If the clothes have no pockets or a leech, you can pin fragrant paper to the garment. It looks a bit funny, but this also helps!
  2. Dab a few drops of the vanilla extract on your body before going out. Turns out the mosquitoes hate the smell of vanilla! Mix 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract with 1/2 teaspoon of water. Soak the mixture in a cotton ball and rub it on your neck, wrists, blue collar bones and ankles.
    • If you are going to be outdoors for a long time, bring a small bottle of vanilla extract to reapply throughout the day.
  3. Mix in peppermint cream to make a natural and effective mosquito repellent. Mix 1/2 cup (120 ml) shea butter and 4-6 drops of peppermint essential oil in a clean bowl. Apply cream to hands, neck, legs, arms, and any exposed skin.
    • If you don't have shea butter, you can use an unscented moisturizer instead.

Advice: Rosemary, cedar, and geranium oils have a similar effect.

  4. Wear sunglasses and bandara towels when going through mosquito-infested areas. No matter how hard you try to avoid it, you will sometimes have to go through mosquito-rich areas. To prevent them from getting into your eyes, nose or mouth, wear sunglasses and wrap a bandara around your face. You can remove these shields once you are out of the mosquito net.
    • Eye mosquitoes don't harm you - they don't bite or transmit disease - but they are annoying and can ruin your whole day of fun. Be prepared to go outdoors, especially when approaching stagnant water sources.

Advice

  • The best way to deal with mosquitoes is to prevent them from appearing. However, if the mosquitoes have come, you only need 2-3 days to completely eliminate them.
  • If your pet is disturbed by mosquitoes, try spraying the apple cider vinegar with water on it. Be sure to cover your pets' eyes with the spray to keep them from stinging them!
