Wonder Woman is an iconic superhero whose costume showcases how powerful and attractive she is at the same time. Regardless of whether you are going to make a costume for an adult or a child, there are various ways to create this outfit yourself using inexpensive materials.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Suit for an adult

  1. 1 Find a tight-fitting red top. The traditional Wonder Woman top has no shoulder straps, so if you need to recreate the costume more closely, use a bustier top (no straps) or a bandage top. If possible, try to find a top made of smooth, shiny material. For a more modest option, you can use a red swimsuit or a tight-fitting tank top. You can also cut off the top of a form-fitting dress and hem the bottom hem.
  2. 2 Create a golden logo for the top. A gold-colored sealing tape is suitable for this. There are various logo designs that can be found online. They range from a detailed eagle to a simple "W". Alternatively, you can cut a W-shaped eagle out of foamiran, paint it golden-colored with spray paint, and then stick it onto the top.
    • As a very simple option, just glue the top edge of the bustier, swimsuit or tank top with golden tape.
    • For a slightly more eye-catching emblem, create a two-layer "W" (superimpose one "W" on top of the other so that it appears to be inside it) with wings extending horizontally out to the sides from the top ends of the letter.
  3. 3 Choose a short blue skirt or shorts. The lower half of the suit is also relatively revealing and usually covers only the upper part of the thighs or reaches the middle of them. Therefore, high-waisted tight-fitting shaping shorts are ideal, but blue gym shorts can work as well. If you still want to go for a more modest outfit, you can use a blue miniskirt, just like the Wonder Woman in the old comics.
    • In some modern versions of the comics, Wonder Woman wears tight-fitting blue or black pants, so you can also use this outfit if you are uncomfortable wearing shorts or a miniskirt.
    • In the 2017 film, Wonder Woman wore a skirt with strips of fabric hanging down the bottom to better cover her hips. To replicate this look, find unnecessary leather trimmings, dye them blue, and then glue along the bottom edge of a skirt or elongated bustier top.
  4. 4 Decorate the bottom of the suit with stars. If you're going to replicate a classic comic book heroine, add stars to your skirt or shorts by cutting them out of white fabric, white tape, or heavy white paper. If necessary, use a generous amount of textile glue to secure the stars to the skirt or shorts.
  5. 5 Find a pair of knee-high boots. Red boots may be hard to find, so buy boots of any color and paint them red spray paint. Alternatively, use red sealing tape or red duct tape to completely cover the boots. You can also take ordinary shoes, fastening red knee-length socks over them.
  6. 6 Decorate the boots with white sealing tape. The top edge of each boot should be glued with white. Also, on each boot, a white vertical stripe is needed, going in the front center from the very top to the very toe.

Part 2 of 3: Children's costume

  1. 1 Find a red tee or tank top. For a more modest version of a bustier for a child, opt for a tank top, T-shirt, or even a long-sleeved T-shirt if you are going to wear a suit on a cool evening.
  2. 2 Create a Wonder Woman emblem with duct tape. Since the suit will not have a deep neckline to accommodate the emblem, simply use strips of yellow duct tape or gold sealant tape to create a “W” on the front of the suit. You can also cut a "W" from golden foamiran. You can find it in your craft store.
    • If you are in a hurry, as you are making a costume at the last minute, and you do not have the right tape or duct tape on hand, use a black permanent marker to draw the emblem on the top. Just be sure to place a piece of cardboard or something similar inside the shirt to prevent the marker ink from leaking onto the back of your suit.
  3. 3 Find a blue skirt. You can also use blue jogging shorts if you don't mind dressing your child up in them, but the skirt will add extra length and femininity to the suit.It can be made from any material, cotton, knitwear, denim. You can even try wearing a blue tulle tutu for fun.
  4. 4 Use nude tights for warmth. If your child is going for a walk in a suit on a cool evening or you are just worried that he does not get cold, find nude tights (whether classic or nylon) to fit under the skirt. They are often available inexpensively at children's clothing stores.
  5. 5 Decorate the skirt with white stars. Cut the stars out of white fabric, felt, or paper and sew or glue them directly onto the skirt with textile glue. If you can find stickers with white stars, let your child help you decorate the skirt with stickers. Depending on the fabric, the stickers may need to be reapplied to keep them from falling off.
  6. 6 Find red knee-high socks. Unless the child has knee-high boots, it will be easier and much cheaper for you to buy red knee-highs. Pull over knee socks over ballet flats or other simple shoes to create the effect of full boots.
  7. 7 Decorate the knee socks with white tape. Use white sealing tape or white duct tape to create a white vertical line in the front center of each knee from knee to toe. Also add a white ring along the top edge. If you don't have white tape and duct tape, take an old white T-shirt, cut a couple of long strips of fabric from it, and sew or glue to the socks.
  8. 8 Complement the costume with a cape if the child wants it. While a typical Wonder Woman outfit does not include a cape, many children's costumes have one. Just find a long piece of red fabric and either sew it to the neckline of the top, or secure it with safety pins to both shoulders.

Part 3 of 3: Add accessories

  1. 1 Find a wide gold belt. If you don't have a gold belt, you can paint any wide belt with gold spray paint, or you can sew a belt out of gold cloth. You can also cut the belt out of gold-colored vinyl, wrap it around the waist and secure it with a Velcro fastener at the back.
    • The belt can be left as it is or decorated with a star or iconic Wonder Woman W emblem on the front. In the latter case, cut out the required shape from cardboard or thin foamiran, painted in red, and attach in the middle in the front with hot glue or craft glue.
  2. 2 Use cardboard toilet paper tubes to make gold-colored bracelets. Unless you have ready-made gold wrist bracelets, the easiest way is to imitate Wonder Woman bracelets using cardboard toilet paper tubes. Cut the two straws lengthwise so you can put them on your hands, and then cover them with golden spray paint or paste over them with golden paper. If the received bracelets do not fit on your wrists, secure them with tape.
    • In the absence of any golden materials, use thin foil to wrap the cardboard bracelets for a metallic look.
  3. 3 Craft a Gold Tiara. Wonder Woman has a gold tiara with a red star on it. The tiara is worn on the top of the forehead and ideally should have a diamond shape in the middle. You can create a tiara from a cheap sports headband or from a toy plastic tiara by wrapping and pasting the base with a golden cloth, paper or foil.
    • Finish the tiara with a red star. You can use a red star sticker on the front, or you can cut a small red star out of fabric or sealing tape and glue it on.
  4. 4 Prepare your lasso. For the lasso, you can take a few meters of ordinary natural rope (brown). The heroine's traditional lasso is yellow, so if desired, the rope can be painted with yellow or gold spray paint. But if the original color is light, the rope without painting will also work.
    • Tie the end of the rope with a loop to simulate a lasso loop, and then hang the twisted lasso from the strap on the hook.
  5. 5 Craft a shield and a sword. You can buy ready-made plastic shield and sword at a carnival costume store, party supplies, or at a toy store. You can also make these accessories yourself by drawing their outlines on thick cardboard and cutting them out of it. The shield should be round. You can draw a "W" emblem on it or stick it on, as you did with the top. When making a sword, wrap the blade with aluminum foil to give it a more realistic metallic look.
  6. 6 Style with long, wavy hair. Style your hair in large waves, curling it loosely on a curling iron and letting it go after a few seconds. Unless your child's hair is black, use a temporary hair dye to dye it black. If you don't want to dye your child's hair, you can wear a black wavy wig from a fancy dress store over your head.

Tips

  • Wonder Woman's makeup doesn't have to be extravagant, but it does need to accentuate the lips with bright red lipstick.
