• What do you need

1 Find the right paper bag to make a cover. The width of the bag should allow paper to wrap both the front and back of the book, that is, the paper should be at least twice the width of the book itself. Also, the height of the bag must be 8 cm higher than the height of the book for the cover to sit properly on it.

2 Cut the bag along the sealed seam. You need to cut one seam on the side of the bag, not the bottom. Be careful not to cut two sides of the bag at once, you only need one. If the bag has handles, remove them.

3 Cut off the folds of the bottom of the bag. Do not cut more than 2.5-5 cm of paper as you need to get a large sheet of paper.

4 Place the book in the center of the resulting paper sheet. Make sure the paper is large enough to wrap the entire book. Make sure there is enough paper to wrap around the front and back of the paper.

Method 2 of 2: Making the cover

1. 1 Fold the bottom edge of the paper over the bottom edge of the book. Fold in a fold along the entire bottom of the cover. If you wish, you can use double-sided tape to secure the fold. This fold will help secure the cover to the book.
2. 2 Place the book on top of the paper and align the bottom edge with the fold. Fold the paper over the top of the book. Fold the fold along the entire top edge of the paper. Again, tape the fold if desired. Then remove the book from the paper.
   • Measure the amount of paper flips. They should be at least 4 cm wide.
3. 3 If the bottom edge is folded up, then the top edge of the cover should be folded down. You will now have a strip of paper high enough to cover the entire height of the book.
   • Try to make sure that the folds of the cover do not coincide with the folds previously on the paper bag, otherwise the cover will quickly tear and will not be able to protect the book.
4. 4 Return the book back to the center of the paper. Wrap the paper around the front and back of the book and align the ends.
5. 5 Tuck the excess paper along the leading edge under the front crust of the book. Fold in the fold. Then insert the front cover of the book into the gap between the top and bottom folds on the cover. Slide the cover inside the fold up to the fold.
6. 6 Tuck the excess paper underneath the back of the book. Fold in the fold. Then insert the back cover of the book into the gap between the top and bottom folds on the cover. Slide the cover inside the fold up to the fold.
7. 7 If the cover is tight, your main job is over. If the cover is a little too big or the top and bottom folds are puckered, you can use small pieces of tape to pull the outside and inside of the folds together and make the cover fit the book more tightly.
   • Do not glue the paper cover to the original book cover. The paper cover should move slightly when the book is opened, moreover, this can damage the original cover of the book.
8. 8 Decorate the book cover if you like. Remove the cover from the book and decorate it with stickers, designs and patterns. You can write your name on it, or use a decorative font to write the title of the book. You can also cut out paper patterns to decorate the cover and glue them on with rubber glue or double-sided tape. When you're done decorating the cover, put it back on the book.

Tips

• For a more durable cover, remove it from the book and unfold it. Cut a piece of clear, self-adhesive tape large enough to completely cover the outside of the cover. Remove the backing from the film and gently adhere the film to the cover, spreading it out as you go to avoid air bubbles. Then fold the cover again in the folds and put it back on the book.
• If you don't have paper wrapping bags on hand, buy a roll of brown wrapping paper and use it instead of a bag. Cut out a rectangle of paper large enough to wrap the entire book and leave a margin of 8 cm on each side.
• If you have a scanner and color printer, copy the front and back covers of the book, as well as the spine, and tape the copies to the paper cover.
