Arabic is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. It is also in the Holy Qur'an. This article explains how to count to ten in Arabic.
Steps
- 1 Quantitative numbers up to ten:
- 1 - Ouahid
- 2 - Etnan
- 3 Talata
- 4 - Arba-a
- 5 - Hamiza
- 6 - Sitta
- 7 - Saba-a
- 8 - Tamania
- 9 - Tizaa (tes-a)
- 10 - Ashara
- 2 Ordinal numbers up to ten:
- 1st - Abba'l
- 2nd - Ta'ni
- 3rd - Tal'lit
- 4th - R'bi
- 5th - Hamis
- 6 - Sâ'tis
- 7th - Sabi
- 8th - Ta'min
- 9 - Ta's'i
- 10th - Ashshir
- 3 You can make numeric adjectives from ordinal by adding "-on" to the end of ordinals. For example,
- Avva'l-an means first of all, first.
- Ta'ni-an means secondarily, secondly, and so on.
- 4 Work on the pronunciation of the letters. The apostrophe means "ayin", which is a letter in Arabic. This is difficult to understand, so ask the Arab to say it for you. Also, read the article on the pronunciation of "kha".
- 5 Think of a way to remember this. Repetition is always good:
- Repeat when you wake up.
- Repeat with breakfast.
- Repeat in the shower.
- Repeat in the car.
- Repeat before bed.
- Repeat wherever possible. Repetition is the mother of learning. Keep practicing. You can also use mnemonic tricks for this.
- 6 Have fun!
- 7 Don't be discouraged if you forget something, just keep learning.
Tips
- Pronunciation is the foundation!
- Ask an Arab friend to help you learn to pronounce the letters.
