It doesn't matter if you cosplay on the weekends or just wear a wig in your daily life, you will have to deal with tangled locks anyway. But don't rush to throw this wig in the trash! With a few inexpensive items (and patience), a tangled wig can be brought back into shape. Take some time to prepare, comb your wig, and then wait until it dries before you can wear it again.

Steps

Part 1 of 3: Place the wig on the rack and prepare the hair conditioner

  1. 1 Get everything you need ready. The best part about this method is that all the materials you need are inexpensive and very easy to obtain. All you need is a comb, a household spray bottle with water, and some conditioner (conditioner) for your hair. Having a wig stand will make the process a lot easier, but you can do without it. You will need:
    • a wig comb or wide-toothed comb;
    • a comb with fine teeth (if the wig has bangs);
    • a spray bottle ¾ filled with water;
    • conditioner for hair;
    • wig stand and space for it (optional).
  2. 2 Hang up your wig. Hang your wig on a stand. If possible, attach the wig stand to a camera tripod (or other tall object) to make it easier for you to work. This is especially true for wigs with long strands.
    • If you don't have a wig stand (or tripod), simply place the wig on a table or countertop.
  3. 3 Prepare your conditioner. Fill a household spray bottle ¾ full with water and then add rinse balm (conditioner). You should have a solution of about 3 parts water and 1 part hair balm. Shake the solution well.
    • If desired, you can use a leave-in conditioner for dry hair or a product specifically designed for detangling wigs.
    • If you have a synthetic wig, try using fabric softener. As in the previous example, mix 1: 3 fabric softener with water.

Part 2 of 3: Comb the wig

  1. 1 Soak your wig. If the wig is very tangled, you should soak it in warm water. To do this, fill the sink with warm water. Remove the wig from the stand (if you have one) and soak it in water for 10-15 minutes. Gently squeeze the water out of the wig and return it to the stand.
    • If the wig is very dirty, add some shampoo to the water.In this case, remember to rinse your wig in clean water before combing it.
  2. 2 Saturate the ends of the wig. Take a spray bottle and spray the ends of the wig with the conditioner until the bottom 10-15 cm of the wig is soaked in the liquid.
    • If the conditioner starts to separate from the water, shake the bottle again.
  3. 3 Comb the ends. Take a wig comb (or wide-toothed comb) and start combing the bottom 10-15 cm of the wig. Hold your hair firmly with one hand (just over the area you are combing) and comb it with the other. If your hair is very tangled, you will have to comb it in small sections until you untangle the entire bottom of the wig.
  4. 4 Work your way up, continuing to spray and brush the hair of the wig. After combing the bottom 10-15 cm of the wig, saturate the next 10-15 cm with the solution and comb them too. Continue this until you have combed the entire wig.
    • If the strands are very long, this process can take you quite a long time (up to an hour).
    • Do not pull on the wig, otherwise the hair will become more tangled. Instead, gently comb through each tangled ball.

Part 3 of 3: Styling and drying your wig

  1. 1 Comb your bangs and style your wig. If your wig has bangs, take a fine-toothed comb and comb it, then style it as you like. While the wig is wet, gently style your hair according to the style of your choice.
  2. 2 Finally, spray the entire wig with water. If you've used a fair amount of conditioner (and especially if your wig is made from natural hair), you should spray the entire wig with clean water. This will dilute the conditioner and prevent the wig from becoming greasy.
  3. 3 Set the wig aside for a few hours to dry, brushing it every half hour. Leave the wig on the stand and wait for it to dry. Brush your wig's hair lightly every 30 minutes. After 2-3 hours, the wig should dry completely.
    • If you're in a hurry, blow dry on a low heat. Be careful as it is very easy to ruin your wig.
    • For best results, air dry the wig.
