Eyelash extensions are synthetic eyelashes that are attached directly to natural lashes using medical grade glue. Extensions are not the same as synthetic lash strips sold from mainstream retailers. The eyelash extension procedure takes at least an hour if done by a makeup artist, but can take up to 3 hours for less experienced people. The lashes last for 2 to 3 weeks and fall out with natural lashes. Keep reading to find out how to attach your friend's eyelash extensions using a home kit.

Steps

  1. 1 Buy an eyelash extension kit. The kit consists of different sizes of eyelashes, tweezers, glue, glue remover and eyelash brush. Each kit is different, so follow the instructions included in the kit.
  2. 2 Wash your eyelashes. Use a washcloth to remove makeup and dirt to keep the glue on your lashes. Give your lashes time to dry before extending.
  3. 3 Cover the lower lashes with white duct paper or tape. The kit should include some kind of gel paper or tape to help separate the lower lashes. When the eyelid closes, the upper lashes will be on a white background, making it easier to see and act on the individual lashes.
  4. 4 Ask a friend to close their eyes and make sure the paper or tape is not pushing the upper lashes upward. Comb through the upper lashes to keep them smooth and separate.
  5. 5 Squeeze a drop of glue onto a smooth surface. You don't need a lot of glue for each lash, so a drop of glue should be enough for a complete lash extension procedure.
  6. 6 Take the eyelash with tweezers and drag half of its length through the glue. Start at the inner corner of the eye and gently brush the extension over the natural lashes where the extension will be attached. Slowly lower the synthetic lash to the natural lash, approximately 1-2 mm from the eyelid.
  7. 7 Continue working your way through your eyelids, peeling off each lash with tweezers before attaching your eyelash extensions. If your eyelash extension has attached to two natural ones, you have at least 10 seconds to move it and attach it to the desired lash before the glue dries.
  8. 8 Attach the last lash to the outer corner of the upper eyelid and let it dry for 10 seconds. Remove the tape or gel paper from the lower eyelid and let your friend open her eyes.

Tips

  • If you don't have someone to attach your eyelash extensions to, consider getting it done by a professional. Trying to attach eyelash extensions yourself is risky as the glue can damage skin or natural eyelashes if not applied properly.

Warnings

  • Do not wet your lashes for at least 2 days after application to avoid loosening the glue.
  • Do not use oil-based mascara as this can weaken the adhesive.
