Kik is a free and popular alternative to standard text messaging programs. Kik combines the functionality of multiple messaging apps, allowing users to easily send text, photos, videos, and more with the click of a few buttons. Kik is available on iOS, Android, Amazon and Windows mobile devices.

Steps

Part 1 of 4: Getting Started with Kik

1. 1 Launch Kik on your mobile device. Click the "Register" button. On the New Account screen, enter your personal information and then click Register to create an account.
   • If you already have an account, just click Sign In.
2. 2 When you launch Kik for the first time, it will ask you if you want to find your friends. If you agree, Kik will scan the names, phone numbers, and email addresses of people in your phone's contact list.
   • If you do not want to search for friends now, you can do it later by clicking on the gear-shaped icon on the main screen of the application, and then clicking "Settings" - "Address book scanning".
3. 3 If you want to add a user that the program did not find in your contact list, you can do it at any time within a few seconds. Click the speech bubble icon (top right corner). Then, in the search bar, enter your Kik username and your friend's real name. As you add friends to Kik, their list will be displayed in a bubble of text.
   • You can also search for interest groups for keywords related to your hobbies (for example, "cars," "computers," "style," and so on). You can even create a new group by clicking on the "Create group" button.
4. 4 Confirm your email address to be able to recover your password if you lose it. To do this, open your email inbox and look for an email from Kik with the subject "Welcome to Kik!" Open the letter and click on the "Click here to complete registration" link.
   • If you don't see this email, look for it in your spam or junk folders.
   • If you still don't see the email, see the Troubleshooting section.

Part 2 of 4: Chatting and Sharing Content Through Kik

1. 1 To send a message in a bubble of text, click on a friend's name. Click "Enter message" and enter your message. Click Submit.
   • Note that on some devices, the Send button looks like a blue bubble with text.
2. 2 To add an emoticon, click on the button in the form of an emoticon while entering a message. A menu will open with many different emoticons. Click on the emoji of your choice to insert it into your message.
   • If you want to diversify your selection of emojis, buy them from the Kik store. In the emoji menu, press the + button to go to the Kik store. See the Using Advanced Features section for more information.
3. 3 Submit a photo or video. To the left of the "Enter your message" field, click on the small "+" button. A folder with photos and videos will open. Click on a photo or video to attach it to your message. If you want, you can add a comment to the photo or video. Click Send or the text bubble button to send your message.
   • Note: On some mobile devices, especially iOS, the first time you try to send a photo or video, Kik will ask you if it can access the photos. Give the app your permission to continue.
   • You can also change this option on your iOS device.Open the Settings app, search for Kik and change the appropriate settings under Privacy.
4. 4 You can send not only ready-made photos, but also take them and immediately send them. To the left of the "Enter messages" field, click on the "+" button, and then click on the camera button. The device will enter camera mode; click on the white circle to take a photo, and then click the "Submit" button.
   • Note: On some mobile devices, especially those running iOS, the first time you try to take a photo or video, Kik will ask you if it can access capture mode. Give the app your permission to continue.
   • You can also change this option on your iOS device. Open the Settings app, search for Kik and change the appropriate settings under Privacy.
5. 5 In addition to photos and videos, you can send YouTube videos, thumbnails, images, and more through Kik. To do this, click the "+" button, and then click the globe-shaped button. A menu with options will open; in it, select the option you need.
   • Stickers. These are small pictures that you can get from the Kik store (free or paid).
   • YouTube video. Allows you to view and upload videos to YouTube.
   • Sketch. Allows you to draw pictures.
   • Search for images. Allows you to search the Internet for images in accordance with a keyword (for example, "flowers", "landscapes" and the like).
   • Memes. Allows you to create memes.
   • The best sites. Allows you to view the most popular websites. Note that the Kik points site where you can earn Kp to buy stickers and other items is also on this list.
6. 6 To remove an image or video that was attached by mistake, click on the image or video, and then click Remove.

Part 3 of 4: Using Advanced Features

1. 1 Upload a profile image. This is what users see when they chat with you. By default, this is an empty frame, but you can replace it with your photo or other image. To do this, follow these steps:
   • Click on the gear icon at the top of the Kik home screen.
   • Click Set Photo.
   • Click "Take a photo" to take a photo of yourself, or click "Select a photo ready" to view the photos in your device's memory.
2. 2 Change the color of your speech bubble (it is green by default). To do this, follow these steps:
   • Click on the gear icon at the top of the Kik home screen.
   • Click on "Settings".
   • Click Cloud Color.
   • In the list of colors, click on the desired color.
3. 3 If you are not satisfied with the default set of emoticons, you can download additional emoticons. To do this, follow these steps:
   • Start chatting with one of your friends.
   • Click on the emoji button.
   • Click the "+" button in the right corner of the menu that opens.
   • In the store, select the emoticons you want.
4. 4 Chat with the Kik Team. By default, a "Kik Team" entry has already been added to your friends list. This is a program that will try to answer any question you may have. There are many witticisms and anecdotes built into it, so send the Kik Team any message and read her answer. You can also send photos and videos to the program, and it will comment on them.
   • If you send a “I need help” message to Kik Team, the program will send you a link to the Kik support page (help.kik.com).

Part 4 of 4: Troubleshooting

1. 1 If you can't find an email from Kik to verify your email address, please request a resubmission. This can be done from a mobile device, not from a computer.
   • Click on the gear icon at the top of the Kik home screen.
   • Click on "Account".
   • Click "Submit" and enter your email address correctly.
   • Click Email Not Confirmed.
   • When a message appears asking if you want Kik to send a new email, click Yes.
   • Note: on devices running Windows Phone, click "Account" - "Account status" - "Send email".
2. 2 Customize the receipt of notifications. By default, Kik notifies you of every new message. But you can customize the receipt of notifications.
   • Click on the gear icon at the top of the Kik home screen.
   • Click Notifications.
   • Check or uncheck the respective options. You can enable / disable the ringtone that plays when a notification is received, enable / disable vibration of the device, and much more.
3. 3 Use the blacklist to block unwanted messages. To do this, follow these steps:
   • Click on the gear icon at the top of the Kik home screen.
   • Click on "Settings".
   • Click "Blacklist".
   • Enter the name of the person you want to block, or click the "+" button in the upper right corner and browse the list of contacts. Click "Block" to confirm your choice.
   • To unblock a user you have blacklisted, click on their name and click Unblock.
4. 4 If you experience errors while using Kik, please reinstall the app. It is constantly updated (its functionality is expanding), but sometimes updates lead to the fact that the application crashes. In this case, simply uninstall the application and then re-download and install it.
   • Note: When you uninstall the app, your message history will be erased, so please save any important information before uninstalling.
5. 5 Open the Kik support center for more help. If you have any problems using Kik, visit the Kik support site; here you will find descriptions and solutions to many problems.

Tips

• Never share your Kik username or password. Remember that Kik employees will never ask you to provide them with your username or password.
• Remember that once you have submitted content, you will no longer be able to cancel the submission. So think twice before sending an embarrassing message or photo!
