Car polishing is the process of directly removing a small layer of paint from the outside of the car body, thereby revealing a fresher paint coat. This process restores the original shine of the vehicle and enhances the overall appearance of the vehicle. If small nicks and scratches are missed, rust can appear, which will deteriorate the beautiful appearance of the car and reduce its price. Polishing your car every 2-3 months will give it a more aesthetic look and help it stay in good condition for longer.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Wash your car thoroughly

  1. 1 Park your car in a shady place. Make sure the surface of the vehicle is cool. This will help prevent soap streaks on the surface of the body.
  2. 2 Place the soap in a suitable bucket (min. 4 liters). Add water before filling the bucket and wait until foam appears. Use only special car wash soap. Before the procedure, find out about the required amount of soap indicated on the package.
  3. 3 Take a large sponge and submerge it in soapy water. Take out the sponge and squeeze out about half of the water, place the sponge on the car body and start washing.
  4. 4 Move the sponge in a circular motion over the car body, paying particular attention to crevices and cracks where dirt can accumulate.
  5. 5 Start washing the car from the top, gradually moving downward. Once the vehicle is completely washed, remove any soap residue from the body.

Method 2 of 3: Choose a sander to polish

  1. 1 Choose a high speed sander for best results. This sander completely eliminates scratches and stains, giving the surface a brilliant shine. However, it is advisable to practice to master the polishing skill. Improper use of the sander can damage the paint and leave nicks and scratches.
  2. 2 Use an eccentric polisher for great results with the least amount of effort. Such a machine is easy to use and does not require skill training. Not all damage will be repaired, but the end result is a beautiful gloss. An eccentric sander uses significantly fewer joints than a high speed sander and is therefore a cheaper option. The achieved result will not last as long as with a high-speed sander.
  3. 3 Use hand polish if the money you spend matters. However, hand polishing is more labor intensive and the results obtained are less effective. Hand polishing takes longer than polishing with a high speed sander or eccentric polisher and the final result will not last as long. Manual polishing does not require equipment, but it requires a lot of consumables and time. As a result, some irregularities in the polish may appear.
  4. 4 Purchase a special polish or compound to help you achieve the desired result. Use compound mixtures if there are deep scratches. Use polishing compounds if the paint surface is in good condition and only needs to be shine. The choice of mixture also depends on the car model, year of manufacture and general condition. You can use two mixtures at the same time. Do not ignore the advice of friends or reputable car enthusiasts.

Method 3 of 3: Polishing

  1. 1 Remove moisture from the car with a chamois leather or a clean, soft towel. Make sure all moisture is removed from the surface of the car.
  2. 2 Apply a generous amount of polishing compound or compound to the surface of the vehicle. Start at the hood for easy performance feedback.
  3. 3 Place the polishing machine on the polishing compound and use it in circular motions to apply the mixture evenly. The movements should be circular and shallow to polish every part of the vehicle.
    • When using powerful polishers, turn on the polisher and rub the mixture into the surface in a circular motion until a shine appears.
    • When hand polishing, apply maximum force while rubbing the mixture into the surface.
  4. 4 Continue polishing until the desired shine appears.
  5. 5 Repeat the surface polishing process until you achieve the desired result.

Tips

  • It takes about 3 hours to polish your car, so time your time correctly.
  • To prevent the mixture from getting into scratches, door slots or cracks in the hood, use protective tape at the joints.

Warnings

  • Do not use household detergents to wash your car. The ingredients in these detergents are very harsh and can damage the surface of the car body paint.
  • Before polishing, check the car body surface and polisher for dirt or sand particles. Any particles of sand or dirt can scratch the surface of the body paint.
