This article teaches you how to get out of a group conversation on WhatsApp. If you leave a group conversation, you will no longer receive notifications and you will no longer be able to join the conversation. You can leave a group conversation on all versions of WhatsApp, including on an iPhone, an Android, and a desktop computer.

To step

Method 1 of 3: On an iPhone

1. Open WhatsApp. Tap the WhatsApp icon. This looks like a white telephone hook with a green speech bubble. If you have already set up WhatsApp, the app will now open in the screen you last opened.
   • If you haven't set up WhatsApp yet, please do so before continuing.
2. Tap the tab Chats. This is a speech bubble at the bottom of your screen.
   • When WhatsApp opens in a conversation, first tap the left arrow in the top left corner of your screen.
3. Select a conversation. Tap the conversation you want to end. You now open the conversation.
4. Tap the name of the conversation. It's in the top left corner of your screen. You now open the settings of the conversation.
5. Scroll down and tap Leave group. This red text can be found at the bottom of the page.
6. Tap on Leave group in the popup. You confirm your choice and you leave the group.
   • The group may not have disappeared from the Chats page after exiting. If so, swipe the conversation left on the Chats page, tap "More", then tap "Delete Group" twice to remove the conversation from the page.

Method 2 of 3: On an Android

1. Open WhatsApp. Tap the WhatsApp icon. This looks like a white telephone hook with a green speech bubble. If you have already set up WhatsApp, the app will now open in the screen you last opened.
   • If you haven't set up WhatsApp yet, please do so before continuing.
2. Tap the tab Chats. This is at the top of the screen. You will now open a list of all your conversations.
   • When WhatsApp opens in a conversation, first tap the left arrow in the top left corner of your screen.
3. Touch and hold the group conversation you want to leave. After about a second, a check mark will appear next to the group.
   • You can now also select other (group) conversations by tapping on them.
4. Tap on ⋮. It's in the top right corner of the screen. A drop-down menu will now appear.
5. Tap on Leave group. This is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
   • If you selected more than one group, it will say "Leave Groups".
6. Tap on Leave in the popup. You will now leave the group (s) you have selected.
   • The group may not have disappeared from the Chats page after exiting. If so, touch and hold the conversation in the Chats window to select the conversation, then tap the trash can at the top of the screen, and tap "Delete" to delete the conversation.

Method 3 of 3: On a desktop computer or online

1. Open WhatsApp on your computer. You can find the desktop version of WhatsApp in Start Select a conversation. Click on the group conversation you want to leave on the left side of the window.
2. click on ∨. This icon is in the top right corner of the conversation window. A drop-down menu will now appear.
   • Make sure to click the icon in the larger conversation window, and not in the list of conversations on the left side of the page.
3. click on Leave group. This is at the bottom of the drop-down menu.
4. click on Leave in the dialog box. You confirm your choice and you leave the group.

Tips

• If you leave a group conversation, you will no longer receive messages and notifications from that group.

Warnings

• By leaving the group, all group members will be notified with "[your name] has left the group".
