Dermaroller is a small cosmetic roller designed for facial skin care and acne and scars treatment. To avoid contamination, clean the dermaroller before and after each use. Sterilize the roller in rubbing alcohol or peroxide, disinfect it with cleaning tablets, or use soap for a quick clean. With a little patience and disinfectant, you can clean the dermaroller with ease.

Steps

Method 1 of 3: Sterilizing the Dermaroller

  1. 1 Rinse the dermaroller under warm water for 2-3 seconds. Turn on the tap and hold the roller under running water to rinse away surface debris such as dead skin or blood.
    • This will remove skin particles that cannot be removed with alcohol alone.
  2. 2 Pour rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide into a small bowl. Pour 60–90% rubbing alcohol or peroxide into the bowl to completely cover the roller. Do not sterilize the dermaroller with medical alcohol with a concentration below 60%.
    • Use a plastic tray or stoneware.
  3. 3 Soak the dermaroller for 60 minutes to sterilize thoroughly. Place the roller in a container with the needle drum facing down. The roller needles should point up.
    • If you want, you can turn on the timer on your phone or kitchen clock.
  4. 4 Rinse the roller under warm running water for 30-60 seconds. After an hour, remove the roller from the container with disinfectant and hold it under running water. This will rinse away any remaining skin particles and traces of alcohol or peroxide.
  5. 5 Place the roller with the needle drum down on a paper towel and let dry. It is imperative that germs do not enter the roller after sterilization. Turn the handle so that the roller is pointing down, and place it on a clean paper towel. Leave it on for 10-20 minutes.
    • The best way to dry the dermaroller is to let it dry naturally. The needles can catch on the towel.
  6. 6 When the dermaroller is dry, place it in a protective container. When the roller is dry, put it back in the box and close the lid to keep it clean and sterilized.
    • Do not store the video elsewhere, otherwise the next time you use it, you will only spread the bacteria on your face.

Method 2 of 3: Sterilize the roller with cleaning tablets

  1. 1 Use special tablets or tablets to clean your dentures. Many dermaroller companies sell cleansing tablets to make them easier to clean. If the tablets came with the roller, read the instructions on the package. Otherwise, use denture cleaning tablets.
    • Denture cleaning tablets are sterilizable and allow you to safely clean the dermaroller.
  2. 2 Fill the container with warm water according to the instructions. Different tablets require different amounts of water. Typically, one glass (240 ml) of water should be sufficient. Measure out the required amount of water with a measuring cup and pour it into a small container.
    • If there is a fill line on the dermaroller cleaning container, use it as a reference for the water level.
  3. 3 Add 1 tablet to the container and immerse the dermaroller in it. Open the pill pack and put it in water. The chemicals in the tablet will mix with the water to form a disinfectant solution. This will happen instantly, so put the roller in the water right away.
    • To thoroughly clean the roller, it must be completely submerged in water.
  4. 4 Leave the roller in the solution for the time indicated in the instructions. Follow the directions on the package to ensure complete disinfection of the roller. In some solutions, the roller needs to be soaked for only 5-10 minutes.
    • If you have used denture cleaning tablets, leave the dermaroller in the solution overnight.
  5. 5 Rinse the roller with warm water before leaving it to dry on a towel. After you have thoroughly soaked the roller, rinse it with warm water to remove any traces of the solution. Then let the roller sit on a clean paper towel for 10-20 minutes to dry.
    • Do not wipe the roller so as not to bend the needles, otherwise you may later scratch your face with them.

Method 3 of 3: Other Cleaning Methods

  1. 1 Soak roller in soapy water for 20 minutes for surface cleaning. Fill a plastic container halfway with warm tap water. Add 3-5 drops of dish soap or castile soap and stir with a spoon. Then place the roller into the container with the needle drum facing down. Soak the roller for 10-20 minutes.
    • This will remove all blood and skin cells from the surface.
  2. 2 Use a clean, soft toothbrush to remove dirt and other debris from the roller. The dermaroller contains many tiny needles that penetrate the pores of the skin. After that, dirt, blood and dead skin can remain between them. For a deeper clean, use a new, clean, soft-bristled toothbrush. Open a faucet with warm water and hold the roller under the stream. Then brush the roller with a toothbrush for 60 seconds.
    • This will remove dirt and debris that has not been cleaned with alcohol and soap.
    • This procedure, although optional, provides a deeper and more thorough cleaning.
    • Do not use an old toothbrush to avoid spreading bacteria throughout the roller.
  3. 3 Run the roller over the wet sponge to remove any remaining debris. Place the wet sponge on a clean, flat surface. Then run the roller over the sponge for 20–45 seconds to remove any dirt and debris that may have been left over from the previous methods.
    • This step is optional, but still recommended if you use the video frequently or have been using it for a long time.
    • Use a new, clean sponge to keep dirt off your face.
  4. 4 Rinse the roller in warm water and leave to dry. Rinse the roller with warm tap water to remove any dirt, skin, blood, and debris that loosened during cleaning. Then turn the roller over and place it on a clean paper towel.
    • Let the roller dry for 10-20 minutes.

Tips

  • Regular cleaning of the roller will increase its lifespan. Typically one roller is good for 15 uses.
  • Sterilization is aimed at destroying all microorganisms, while disinfection allows you to thoroughly clean the dermaroller, but after it a small amount of microorganisms remains on the roller.

Warnings

  • Do not clean the dermaroller with harsh chemicals such as bleach. They can damage your skin the next time you use the roller.
  • If the roller is not cleaned, bacteria will develop on the roller and will get onto the skin the next time you use it.
  • Do not use boiling water to clean the dermaroller, otherwise you may ruin the needles.
