A surfboard on the roof of a car can behave like an airplane wing. Both gravity and lifting and pulling forces come into play. A board flying off a roof can be a deadly weapon.

Steps

1. 1 Attach the roof rack securely. If it is a so-called soft boot, it must be made of more durable parts than just a belt net attached to the sides of the car. Belts should be fastened with a padlock, not simple rings.
2. 2 The straps that secure the board to the trunk should be checked for scuffs and weak points. Buckles should be with a lock, not simple rings. It is advisable to use stainless zinc locks.
3. 3 Place the board on the trunk with the keel up and forward. This will reduce lift and the keel acts as a brake, preventing the board from sliding to the side of the trunk.
4. 4 Thread the straps over the side rails of the trunk and over the board, then wrap them over the railing on the other side. Make sure the buckle does not hit the railing. Each strap should wrap the board twice.Repeat the same starting from the opposite railing.
5. 5 Shake the board well to make sure it doesn't move.
6. 6 Always tie the remainder of the strap. Don't leave him flying in the wind.
7. 7 Do not tighten the straps too tight, this can damage the board.

Tips

• Check regularly to see if the board is tied tightly if you are riding far. If the boards are stacked on top of each other, try not to damage one board with the keel with the other. Also, try not to hit the bottom board with the nose of the top board. Don't increase your speed!
• Remove the cords from the boards before you start tying them to the trunk.
• Turning the belt halfway will prevent noise.
• Place a separator between the planks to prevent grease spreading, plank movement or breakage.

Warnings

• Always place the board on the trunk with the keel facing up.
• The board creates lift.
• Never lay the boards loose.
