This article will show you how to find the approximate geographic location of an IP address. To trace an IP address, you first need to know it.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Using WolframAlpha
1 Find out the IP addressto track. The website's IP address can be found on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, and Android.
- You can also find out the IP address of the Skype user.
2 Open the WolframAlpha service website. Go to https://www.wolframalpha.com/ in a web browser.
3 Click on the search bar. It's at the top of the page.
4 Enter the IP address that you learned. For example, if you want to track your Facebook IP address, in the search bar, enter 157.240.18.35.
5 Click on ↵ Enter. The process of searching for the geographic data of the IP address starts.
6 Review the search results. The screen will display the type of IP address, ISP and city where the user of the IP address is located.
- Click “More” to the right of the “IP address registrant” heading to view information about the city.
- If the WolframAlpha service does not display IP address information, use the IP Lookup service.
Method 2 of 2: Using IP Lookup
1 Find out the IP addressto track. The website's IP address can be found on Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, and Android.
- You can also find out the IP address of the Skype user.
2 Open the IP Lookup website. Go to https://community.spiceworks.com/tools/ip-lookup/ in a web browser.
3 Click on the search bar. It is located under the heading “IP Address or Hostname”.
4 In the search bar, enter the IP address that you learned. For example, enter 172.217.7.206to find out information about one of the Google addresses.
5 Click on Lookup IP address (Find IP Address). This blue button is to the right of the search bar.The process of searching for the IP address data starts.
6 Review the search results. The IP Lookup service will display basic information about the location of the IP address (for example, city and state) along with a map and an icon that indicates the user's position.
