This article will teach you how to open the control panel using the command line.

Steps

  1. 1 Open the Start Menu. To do this, either click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner of the screen, or press the key ⊞ Win.
    • On computers running Windows 8, you can hover your mouse over the upper right corner of the screen and click on the magnifying glass icon.
  2. 2 Enter command prompt in the start menu. This will bring up a Command Prompt shortcut, it will appear at the top of the Start Menu.
  3. 3 Open up Command line. It's that black rectangle at the top of the Start menu. When you open it, you will see a dropdown menu.
  4. 4 Enter start control to the command line. This command brings up the control panel.
  5. 5 Click on ↵ Enter (Enter). This will tell the computer to execute the command you entered. After a second or so, the control panel should appear.

Tips

  • On computers running Windows 10, you can right-click on the Start menu icon (or click ⊞ Win+X) to open the advanced menu, in which, among other options, you will see the command line.

Warnings

  • If you work at a computer connected to a local network, or at a computer that is used by several people at once, access to the command line may be blocked for you.
