Keep your refrigerator clean and not sticky by covering the shelves with plastic tape. Spills won't be a problem, especially those that leave sweet, sticky or bloody marks on the shelves. Using tape, the shelves can be quickly and hygienically cleaned without scrubbing or scraping.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Applying the tape for the first time
1 Remove all food from each compartment of the refrigerator.
2 Clean the shelves and the refrigerator itself using a detergent and lukewarm water.
3 Rinse the soap off the refrigerator shelves after washing.
4 Dry all surfaces before using to keep mold and make sure the tape will fit properly.
5 Pull out a sheet of plastic wrap large enough to cover the first shelf. A film that uses a “pinch-and-tighten” method is the best option.
6 Place the tape at the top of the shelf and smooth it out with your hands. Wrap enough plastic wrap to completely cover the shelf.
7 Continue to apply the film to each shelf of the refrigerator.
Method 2 of 2: Replacing Shelf Film
Replace tape if spilled on it.
1 Remove everything from the desired shelf.
2 Pull on the edge of the film or peel it off if it is a “press and seal” film.
3 Throw away the used film.
4 Stick the new tape on the shelf.
5 Wipe down the outside of the jars and bottles you removed and put them back on the shelf.
Tips
- Wipe down all jars and bottles before putting them back on the shelf.
Warnings
- This method is quick and easy, but not environmentally friendly, even if you dispose of the film after use. You can try removing stains from the film if possible; if successful, the film may be useful for a while. In addition, creating a mildew-friendly environment can be a health problem, especially in a commercial setting.
What do you need
- Polyethylene film
- Bowl (for detergent and warm water)
- Dish rag or sponge
- Press and seal film
