Apple's AirPlay is a technology that lets you stream content from an iOS mobile device to an Apple TV video device, AirPort Express, or AirPlay speakers. To start an AirPlay broadcast, you need to connect your mobile device and your AirPlay device to the same wireless network.

Part 1 of 2: How to set up AirPlay

1. 1 Make sure your iOS mobile device supports AirPlay. These devices are iPad, iPad Mini, iPhone 4 or later, iPod Touch 4G or later. You can connect an iPad 2 or later, an iPhone 4s or later, and an iPod Touch 5G or later to the Apple TV video device.
2. 2 Make sure the device that will be streaming content is AirPlay-compatible. These devices include the Apple TV video device, AirPort Express, and AirPlay speakers.
3. 3 Connect your iOS mobile device and AirPlay device to the same wireless network.
4. 4 Swipe up on the screen of your mobile device. The Control Center will open.
5. 5 Tap AirPlay. A list of all AirPlay devices that are connected to your wireless network will open.
6. 6 Tap the device that will play streaming content. An icon appears next to each device to indicate the type of content the device is playing. For example, a TV-shaped icon appears next to Apple TV, which means you can stream videos to your Apple TV. When you select a device, AirPlay will turn on.
7. 7 Navigate to the media to be AirPlayed. Now click Play. The AirPlay device starts playing the media content.

Part 2 of 2: How to Troubleshoot AirPlay Issues

1. 1 Update iOS and iTunes on AirPlay devices. This will ensure that AirPlay works efficiently on these devices.
2. 2 Restart your iOS device and Apple TV video device if there is no AirPlay option in Control Center. This will cause both devices to reconnect to the wireless network, which will help activate AirPlay.
3. 3 Turn AirPlay on in Apple TV preferences if there is no AirPlay option in Control Center. AirPlay is usually activated by default on your video device, but you may have turned it off on your Apple TV.
4. 4 Make sure the device that will be streaming content is turned on and plugged into an electrical outlet. Do this if there is no such device in Control Center. The iOS mobile device may not be able to detect the AirPlay device because the AirPlay device is turned off or its battery is nearly empty.
5. 5 Check the volume level on both devices if there is a picture but no sound. If the volume is turned down or turned off altogether on one or both devices, AirPlay will not be able to broadcast sound quality.
6. 6 Connect the device to the Internet via an Ethernet cable if the content is streaming with delays. This will ensure a more stable Internet connection and eliminate streaming delays.
7. 7 Try to get rid of items or devices that are interfering with AirPlay. Microwaves, baby monitors, and metal objects interfere with streaming content.
