Twitter is much more fun when you have friends! When you find friends on Twitter and follow their news, you can view their status updates in your feed. When friends on Twitter follow your news, any tweets you post will appear in their feed. By finding and adding friends on Twitter, you can read updates from people you are interested in, as well as be able to join lively conversations with them. Use this article as a guide to help you find and add friends on Twitter.

Steps

Method 1 of 4: Look for Friends by Name

1. 1 Go to the Twitter search bar. It is located at the top.
2. 2 Enter your friend's name in the search bar and press Enter. You can enter both the real name of a friend and his username on Twitter.
3. 3 Click on the "People" link on the left side of the screen. Twitter will show you a list of people who match your request.
4. 4 Scroll down the People list until you find your friend. Most Twitter accounts display a user icon as well as a description.
5. 5 Click the "Read" button to the right of your friend's name. Your friend has now been added to your feed. In the future, you will be able to read your friend's tweets and see status updates.

Method 2 of 4: Find Hobby Friends

1. 1 Click on the "In the course" link in the upper left corner of the screen.
2. 2 Click Popular Users on the left side of the screen. The page will refresh to show you a list of categories and interests, such as music, sports, business, fashion, and more.
3. 3 Select the categories that interest you. You can also type a phrase or category in the search bar displayed on this page. For example, if you want to find friends who are interested in salsa, type "salsa".
4. 4 See the profiles of friends whose interests match yours. Many profiles have a description under their username so you can find out more about your friend.
5. 5 Read friends who share your interests by clicking the "Read" button.

Method 3 of 4: Look for Referral Friends

1. 1 Click on the "In the Course" tab in the upper left corner of the page.
2. 2 Click on "Kindred in Spirit" on the left side of the screen. Twitter will then suggest a list of users based on your interests and the interests of your current friends.
3. 3 Click on the "Read" button next to the username to follow the actions of the new friend.

Method 4 of 4: Look for Email Friends

1. 1 Click on the "In the Course" tab in the upper left corner of the screen.
2. 2 Click "Find Friends" on the left side of the screen.
3. 3 Click the "Search Address Book" button next to your mail domain. You can search for friends if you use Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL, Windows Live, or MSN Messenger.
4. 4 Enter your email username and password when Twitter asks you to enter this information.
5. 5 Click "Allow" or "Grant Access" when Twitter asks for permission to access your address book. Twitter will then display a list of Twitter friends using the information from the address book.
6. 6 Click "Follow" next to the name of each person you want to add as a friend on Twitter.

Tips

• Invite your friends to Twitter by emailing them in the Find Friends section. You will find this section in the "In the Course" tab, click "Find Friends" and enter a friend's address in the line below the list of mailboxes.
• View your friends' profiles in the “Like-minded” section on the left side of your Twitter page at any time. Twitter will automatically display the profiles of the users you might want to add as friends based on your interests and the interests of your friends.
• Look for third-party apps online to help you find friends on Twitter. Some applications look for friends by special parameters; for example, "TwitterLocal" will help you find user accounts in your area. To find these apps, search for "find friends on Twitter" or "find friends on Twitter".

Warnings

• Never share your username and password with third-party sites or applications that you do not fully trust. Some third-party sites or services may be malicious and may use your Twitter account for spam or fraud.
