A real Roman toga is spacious enough that you will need help getting it on. For an ordinary Roman, a toga was a luxury, it was worn the way a tuxedo is worn today. The toga can be of any color, with some exceptions. White togas were worn by adult male citizens. Purple stripes were on the clothes of senators and members of the equestrian class.

Steps

  1. 1 According to the rules, the toga is worn over the tunic, so you must first put on the tunic.
  2. 2 Fold the toga in half. You will get a fairly long, narrow bundle of fabric.
  3. 3 Extend your left arm to the side. Drape the left end of the toga around your arm so that it hangs down from the front to about the ankle. (Watch up to about 25th second on video).
  4. 4 Wrap the toga around your back and slide it under your right hand. The toga should be slightly above the waist on the back. (Watch up to about 35th second in the video).
  5. 5 Continue from the front, wrapping your left shoulder and arm. The toga should run nicely along the chest. (Watch up to about 40 seconds in the video).
  6. 6 The weight of the part of the toga that hangs back from your left shoulder balances it and holds it on you.
  7. 7 Your assistant should carefully tweak the folds to make the toga look "right."
