Tongue tricks are a fun way to impress your friends. Some are relatively simple, while others require more muscle control. With a little practice, you can master some cool language tricks.

Steps

Part 1 of 2: Learn Simple Language Tricks

  1. 1 Roll your tongue into a tube. Curling your tongue into a tube is one of the most common tongue tricks. To do this, fold the outer edges of your tongue up and around so that they touch each other. Slide your tongue through your lips to create a tube shape.
    • To make the tips of your tongue come together, push the edges up with your fingers. Fold your lips together with the letter "O" and keep your tongue in this shape. Repeat until you can roll your tongue into a tube without using your fingers.
    • Another way to give the tongue this shape is to pull the middle of the tongue muscle downward. So the edges of the tongue should rise up. Try to grab the edges of your tongue along the edges of the palate. Then stick your tongue between your lips, holding its shape.
    • This method is also called a tongue loop or ring.
    • 65–81% of people can fold their tongue this way; women are more prone to this than men. Recent research has begun to debunk the myth that curling up the tongue is a genetic trait. Several studies involving children have shown that tongue curling can be learned.
  2. 2 Pull your tongue down and out to the side. For this trick, you actually fold your tongue in half. First, the tip of your tongue should be behind your back teeth. Push your tongue forward while holding the tip of your tongue in place. It should fold in half.
    • When finished, open your mouth wider. This will help you see how your language has developed.
  3. 3 Flip your tongue 180 degrees. Flip your tongue over in your mouth. You can turn it clockwise or counterclockwise, whichever is more convenient for you. Press your tongue against your lower teeth while helping your front teeth to keep your tongue straight. Stick the tip of your tongue out of your mouth. You should see the bottom of the tongue.
    • Use your fingers to train your tongue to do this. Take your tongue and turn it over. Hold it in this position. Let go and try to hold your tongue in this way without outside help.
  4. 4 Touch your nose with your tongue. This trick can be quite difficult depending on the length of your tongue and the length of your nose. First stick out your tongue. The tip of the tongue should be facing up. Extend your tongue as far as possible towards the nose.
    • For some people, pulling the upper lip over the teeth may help. For others, it is best to stretch the upper lip as close to the teeth as possible above the teeth near the cervical gum. This way your language doesn't have to travel too long.
    • Try to align your tongue as you pull it up. This will give you a better stretch than holding it with a wedge.
    • When you work on stretching your tongue to touch your nose, point your finger towards the nose.
  5. 5 Learn to make a spoon. In this simple trick, you just need to bend your tongue. Open your mouth, your tongue should be flat. Pull the middle of your tongue downward while bending the edges upward. Bend the tip of your tongue inward. This will make the edges of the tongue appear rounded, like a spoon.
    • When you're done with this trick, your tongue will stick out of your mouth. The back of your tongue will be pressed against your lower lip.
    • If you are having trouble with a rounded shape, first try rolling your tongue into a tube. Then lift the tip of your tongue. Or try using your finger to lower the middle of your tongue.
  6. 6 Make a spaceship. This simple trick is based on lip placement. The upper and lower teeth should be covered with the lips. Press your tongue to the palate as flat as possible. The edge of the tongue should be visible through the lips. The spaceship is made with the rounded edge of the tongue and a thin line of skin below.
    • If you're having trouble making a spaceship, press your tongue to the sky before moving your lips.
    • Use your finger to help yourself move your tongue into position if you cannot press it against the palate.

Part 2 of 2: Learn More Advanced Tongue Tricks

  1. 1 Make a clover leaf. The cloverleaf is based on the position of the tongue rolled into a tube. Roll your tongue into a tube. Then pull the tip of your tongue back. Pulling it back, press the back of your tongue against the inside of your lower lip.
    • You may need to stretch your lips wide to complete. First, wrap them up a little, creating more tension to press your lips again. It will also give you enough space to view the language.
    • Use your fingers while you study. Roll your tongue into a tube. Place your fingers under your tongue about an inch apart. Pull the tip of your tongue. This will help your tongue master the cloverleaf shape.
  2. 2 Try a forked tongue. This trick creates the illusion that you have two separate tips of your tongue. At first, the tongue should lie flat and protrude slightly from the lips. Stick your tongue into your mouth and place the tip of your tongue behind your teeth. Pull the middle of your tongue down to show the edges. Press your lips around your tongue so that your tongue is the only thing showing from the sides.
    • Use your finger to push the middle of your tongue if it is constantly peeking out. The trick is to only see two sides.
    • You can also achieve a similar effect by twisting your tongue. Roll your tongue into a tube. Push the edges of your tongue as close to and across your lips as possible. The shape of the tube will help keep the rest of the tongue out of sight.
  3. 3 Learn the reverse T. Some of the movements used in this trick are the same as in clover. First, the tip of the tongue should be placed behind the back teeth. Push the middle of your tongue down while pushing it forward. A crease should form along the tongue, just above your teeth. Together with a line down the center of your tongue, this fold forms an inverted T.
