Method 1 of 2: Delete a chat

1. 

   Open the Instagram app on your phone or tablet. This app has pink, orange, yellow and purple camera icons on your phone home screen. If you have an Android device, this app might be in the app tray.
   • This method is used to delete an entire live chat from inbox on Instagram.
   • Messages in other people's mailboxes in the conversation are not deleted.
   • If you want to delete a sent message in a live chat, you can "unsend" the message. No one in the conversation can see the sent messages.

   Tap the inbox icon in the upper right corner of the screen. This icon looks like a paper plane if you have no unread messages. If there are unread messages, you will see a pink circle with the number of unread messages inside.

   Swipe conversation left. Two options will appear to the right of the message.

   Touch the button Delete (Erase). A message confirming deletion of the conversation is displayed.

Method 2 of 2: Delete Sent Messages

   • You can only delete the messages that you have sent. If you want to delete someone else's messages, you'll need to delete the entire conversation.
