Today WikiHow teaches you how to clear your computer's DNS memory, which collects the addresses of your recently visited websites. Clearing DNS memory will resolve the "Page Not Found" status and other DNS related errors.

Steps

Method 1 of 2: On Windows operating systems

1.

4. Type the following code into Terminal: and press ⏎ Return. DNS deletion command will be executed.

   

5. Enter your Mac computer password if asked. That is the password that you use to log into your computer. This will complete the DNS deletion.

   

   
   
   • Terminal will not display buttons as you type, but will note the password.
6. Restart the web browser. You should now be able to connect to the DNS error page.

   

Advice

• On Windows, you can temporarily disable DNS memory by opening Command Prompt and typing net stop dnscache. The DNS memory will be paused until the next computer reboot.
• If you want to clear the DNS memory on your mobile device, the most consistent way is to perform a hardware reboot, which requires you to hold down the power button to power off your phone or tablet and then turn it on again.

Warning

• The web pages will take some time to reload the first time you visit them after you clear the DNS memory.
