EPUB books are e-books in an open-source format that you can download. EPUB files often cannot be opened with an e-reader. An EPUB actually consists of 2 files, a ZIP file containing the data and an XML file that describes the data in the ZIP file. You can open EPUB files by converting them or by downloading a suitable reader.

Method 1 of 10: EPUBReader for Firefox

1. Download an EPUBReader add-on for Firefox. If you read books while online, this is a great choice. Go to addons.mozilla.org and search for EPUB Reader.
   • You may need to restart the browser to use the add-on.

Method 2 of 10: MagicScroll eBook Reader for Chrome

1. In Google Chrome, go to the Chrome web store and search there for the MagicScroll eBook Reader. Then install the correct extension for your browser.
2. Visit Magicscroll's official website from Chrome to add EPUB files to your library. Click on "Add a Book to Your Library" to start working with the browser extension.
3. Not only can you upload a file that is already on your computer, but you can also place a link to a file on the Internet. Do this to continue.
4. Once you've uploaded the file, the book will be in your library. There are 2 books that have now been added to your personal library, but you can delete them whenever you want.
5. Double-click the book cover to open the EPUB in your Chrome browser.

Method 3 of 10: FBReader for Windows

1. Go to the official website of FBReader and download this program.
2. Start the program. Click the second icon on the left, a book with a big green plus sign, to search your computer for ebooks.
3. A window will then appear with any settings that can be changed. Adjust it as desired and press "Ok".
4. The EPUB will now open in FBReader.

Method 4 of 10: MobiPocket Reader for Windows

1. MobiPocket Reader for Windows is a popular reader for EPUB files. Download the file.
   • Once downloaded, double-click the file to install it and set the program as desired.

Method 5 of 10: Icecream Ebook Reader for Windows

1. Download and install the Icecream Ebook Reader from the official website.
2. Start the program. You can now drag an ebook to the program window, or click "Add book to your library to start reading". This will open Windows Explorer so you can browse for files on your computer.
3. When a book is added to the program, you can view the title, author, date the file was added, and other information. Double-click on the title of the book to open it.
4. After that, the EPUB will be opened by Icecream Ebook Reader by default.

Method 6 of 10: Caliber for Windows

1. Go to Caliber official website and download the software.
2. After launching the program, you will be presented with Caliber's Welcome wizard, with the option to choose a language and location for your ebooks when they are added to Caliber.
3. The next step of the wizard is to select your ebook device. In case your model is not listed, please select a "Generic" device.
4. When you have finished with the wizard, you will be taken to the main window of the program. Click "Add books" to open Windows explorer and browse your computer for EPUB files, or simply drag and drop them into the Caliber window.
5. Double-click on the title of the book to open it with Caliber.

Method 7 of 10: Aldiko Book Reader for Android

1. Download the Aldiko Book Reader from Google Play and run this app on your Android.
2. Swipe the screen from left to right to open the menu. Tap "Files" for an overview of all ebooks on your Android. Since this ebook reader uses the EPUB format, they will be displayed automatically.
3. Click on the EPUB you want to view in Aldiko Book Reader and press "Open" to open it immediately or click "Import" to add this file to your library.

Method 8 of 10: Converting EPUB files

1. Download the EPUB. You can find free EPUBs on sites like projectgutenberg.org and epubbooks.com. Download the file to your computer and sync it with your e-reader if you want to read the book on such a device.
2. Place the file in a location where you can easily find it. You can choose to create a new folder for EPUB files so that you can convert multiple files at the same time.
3. Visit a free conversion website, such as Zamzar.com or Epubconverter.com. These websites convert 1 file at a time.
   • If you want to convert multiple EPUB files at the same time, it is more convenient to download a converter. Go to download.cnet.com and search for ebook software. Read the reviews and download the converter. Install the program and convert multiple files at the same time.
4. Find that part of the website that is intended to convert an EPUB to PDF. Alternatively, you can also choose to convert to Kindle (Amazon), Microsoft or the Sony e-book file format.
5. Click on "Convert File Now" or simply use the browser if available. Find the file to be converted on your computer.
6. Click on Convert. Wait for the conversion to complete. For large books, this can take from a few minutes to 1 hour, depending on the internet connection.
7. Download the PDF link to your computer. Move it from the Downloads folder to the folder where you saved the ebooks.
8. Synchronize the folder with your e-reader the next time you connect it to your computer.

Method 9 of 10: Read EPUB files on Kindle

1. Download Caliber from calibre-ebook.com. Caliber is an ebook management tool. It is an e-reader, library and conversion tool.
   • This is the best solution for those with multiple e-readers as it allows you to convert EPUB files to various other formats and save them in your library.
2. Click on the file to open it. Select the main language and type of e-reader.
3. Manage your files. Click on "Add Books" to add files to your Caliber library.
4. Select the files you want to convert. Choose the MOBI format so that you can view the ebook on a Kindle.
5. Click on "Connect / Share" to share it with your Kindle. Some e-readers require a connection to the computer.

Method 10 of 10: Reading an EPUB on your Macintosh

1. Download the iBook application from the App Store. Install the program. The next time you come across an EPUB, the iBook icon will be displayed. Open the file to read the EPUB.
2. Find the Stanza program in the App Store (this also works on iOS devices). You can download it to your computer, iPhone or iPad to open EPUB files.
   • On your Mac, click the DMG file file in Downloads to install the app. Browse and locate EPUB files to read with the program.
