This wikiHow teaches you how to have voice chat on your Nintendo Switch. There are two ways to have voice chat while playing compatible games on Nintendo Switch. You can chat using the Nintendo Switch Online app for Android and iOS devices. The Nintendo Switch is also capable of supporting voice chats using a built-in microphone. Right now, Splatoon 2 and Fortnite are games where you can have voice chat. After Nintendo launches its premium online service in September 2018, support for this feature will also be available for a number of other games soon.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Use the Nintendo Switch Online app
Download and install the Nintendo Switch Online app. The Nintendo Switch Online app is available for free on the Google Play Store for Android smartphones and tablets, or the App Store on iPhone and iPad. The app is red with the word "Online" underneath the icon for two joy-con controls. Follow these steps to download Nintendo Switch Online app:
- Open Google Play Store or App Store.
- Search for "Nintendo Switch Online".
- Click GET (Receive) or Install (Install) next to the Nintendo Switch Online app.
Open the Nintendo Switch Online app. You can open the application by pressing the icon on the home screen of the mobile device, or by pressing the button Open (Open) on App Store / Google Play Store.
Log in to the Nintendo Switch Online app. After opening the application, several information screens will appear. Swipe left to skip to the last page, and tap Sign In (Log in). If you do not have a Nintendo account, you need to click Create a Nintendo Account at the bottom of the screen and follow the instructions to create an account.
Launch a Nintendo Switch online chat enabled game. Click or select the game image on the home screen of the Nintendo Switch to launch the game. Currently, Splatoon 2 is an online game that supports online chat through the Nintendo Switch Online application.
Select online chat. Game that supports online chat will have an option to create or join chat on the main menu or options list. Since Splatoon 2 is the only game that supports online chat, you need to go to the Online Lounge in Splatoon 2.- Launch Splatoon 2.
- Press the button ZR + ZL The Beginning
- Press the button A continuously to ignore all news and updates.
- Press the button X to open the menu.
- Choose Lobby (or Grizzco for Salmon Run).
- Choose Online Lounge.
Join the room or choose Create Room (Create room). If you get an invitation, you can choose which room to join. If there is no invitation, select Create Room.
Select game mode. You can choose Private Match (Private match) or other mode that the game offers.
- If possible, check the box to allow your friends to participate in the password chat.
Click OK. This button is located in the center of the Nintendo Switch screen.
Click Send Notification to My Smart Device (Send notifications to smart devices). The chat room on Nintendo Switch Online will be created on a smartphone or tablet.
Tap the chat bar at the bottom of the app. On your smartphone or tablet, tap the chat bar at the bottom of the screen. The chat room opens with options to invite friends.
Invite friends into the chat room. There are three ways to invite a friend to chat.
- Social Media Friend allows you to invite friends from social networks. Tap this option and select the social network to post the invite link to that app platform.
- Nintendo Switch Friend allows you to invite friends from your Nintendo Switch account.
- Users You Played With allows you to invite users who have played together before.
Use the chat features on Nintendo Switch Online. After setting up a chat room on Nintendo Switch Online, you will have the following options:
- Invite friends: To invite more friends to chat, tap the person in the upper right corner of the Nintendo Switch Online app.
- Mute the chatroom: Click the microphone icon with a straight line through to mute the chat room.
- Leave the chat: To leave the chat room, click on the "X" at the bottom of the screen.
Method 2 of 2: Use a headset with integrated microphone
Connect the integrated headset microphone to the headphone jack. The headphone jack is located above the Nintendo Switch, next to the game card slot.
Launch a multiplayer compatible game. To start a game on the Nintendo Switch, click or select the game on the Nintendo Switch home screen. Right now, the only game that supports multiplayer chatting via headphones is Fortnite, which can be downloaded for free from the Nintendo eShop.
Choose a multiplayer mode. Compatible game lets you chat with team members over headphones with microphone. On Fortnite, you can chat with your team or friends in Battle Royal mode. advertisement
