Besides finding directions and addresses everywhere in the world, with Google Maps, you can also determine the coordinates of any place. Just choose a location and share it with yourself or others and you can do it on your iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop versions of Google Maps. This is as simple as clicking or clicking on the desired location!

Steps

Method 1 of 3: iPhone and iPad

1. 

   Download and open Google Maps. Go to the App Store (iOS), look for "Google Maps", and tap the Get / Install button next to the search result to download the app.
   • Once downloaded, tap it on your phone's home screen to open the app.

   Mark the position you want to find on the map. There are two ways to do this:
   • Enter the address, location or spot you want to search for in the search bar and press the "Search" button.
   • Navigate the map's interface with your finger and navigate to your desired location. Press and hold to mark on the map.

   Share location using Messages. Click the "Dropped Pin" tab at the bottom of the screen and select "Share". Here, you can share by many different methods. However, using "Messages" is currently the fastest way to get the location coordinates you have chosen.

   Select your sharing recipients and press "Send". You can share yourself to get the coordinates of the selected place or share this information with a friend.
   • Sharing a place with friends allows them to know where you are now (or to come) and can easily find their way there.

   Get shared location information. Open a text message containing the shared content.

   Click the Google Maps link. The link appears in the message after the location's address and begins with "goo.gl/maps".

   Find coordinates. The aforementioned link will launch Google Maps, and the coordinates of the shared place will appear at both the top and bottom of the screen.
   • Often the latitude will come before the longitude.

Method 2 of 3: Android

1. 

   Download and open Google Maps. Go to the Play Store (Android) app store, find "Google Maps", and click the Get / Install button next to the search result to download the app.

2. 

   Mark the position where you want to find the coordinates. Find that place on the map. Touch and hold until a red mark appears on the map.
   • You can also use the search bar to find certain places, such as the address of a certain business or park.

   See coordinates. Once marked, look at the search bar at the top of the screen. The coordinates of the selected place will appear in the search bar.

4. 

   Share location if desired. Tap the “Dropped Pin” tab at the bottom of your screen. Click "Share" and select the messaging app you want to use then text / email to yourself or someone else.
   • The information shared includes the longitude and latitude coordinates of the place you marked.
   • Latitude is usually prefixed with longitude.

Method 3 of 3: Calculator

1. 

   Find the address / place you want to locate with Google Maps. The Google Map will open. Depending on your specific search, it is possible that Google will mark the exact location or offer some options.
   • For example, when you search for "Starbucks Seattle," a map with several possible locations to choose from appears.
   • If you don't have a specific address, zoom in or out on the map to geotag the place you want to find.

   Tick. Click on the exact location of the place where you want to find the coordinates.
   • After you bookmark it, the coordinates of the marked place will appear as part of the URL in the address bar. However, there is a simpler way to get this information.

3. 

   Right-click on the marker and select "What's here?" (What is this).
   • To right-click on a Mac, press and hold Ctrl while clicking.
   • Instead of markers, you can also right-click on the place on the map directly.

4. 

   Get coordinate information. The coordinates will be displayed in the rectangular box that appears at the bottom of the computer screen.
   • Latitude is recorded before longitude.

Advice

• You can also paste the coordinates into the Google Maps search bar. Google will mark the location described with that coordinate.
• Understand what longitude and latitude are. Meridian runs from the North Pole to the South Pole and is used to determine your position east / west. The latitude is perpendicular to the meridian and is used to determine your position north / south. Longitude and latitude are measured in degrees (D), minutes (M), and seconds (S). Google Maps displays coordinates in two ways:
  • Degrees, Minutes and Seconds: DDD ° MM 'SS.S'; 42 ° 13’08.2 "N 83 ° 44’00.9" W
  • Decimal degrees: DD.DDDDD °; 42.231039 ° N, 83.733584 ° W
• If your web browser uses Google Maps Lite, you will not be able to see the longitude and latitude coordinates. To determine if you're in Lite mode, look for the lightning bolt icon in the bottom right corner of the map or go to the settings menu (☰) and scroll down to see: "You ' re in Lite mode "(You are in Lite mode) or not.
