This wikiHow teaches you how to find the product key for your Microsoft Office version.
Steps
Method 1 of 2: Microsoft Office 365, 2016, 2013, and 2011
- Look in personal emails and documents. Newer versions of Office do not store the full 25 characters of the product key in a computer-readable format. The best way to view the product key is to find the electronic receipt (if purchased online) or the product packaging (if you bought it from the store).
- If the computer came with a registered version of Office, the code may be printed on a hologram sticker somewhere on the device.
- If you have the original disc or packaging, look for the sticker or tag that contains the code.
- If you purchased the software from the Microsoft Store, look for the receipt in the email. Be sure to have a product key on the receipt.
Check with online store. If you can't find your receipt, you can still find the code by logging into your store account.- If you purchased software from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your account at https://www.microsoftstore.com.
- Click Order History (Transaction history).
- Click an order.
- Click Install Office (Install Office).
- Click Hi. Let's get your Office (Hello. Get your Office) to show the key.
- If you purchased Office at work through Microsoft HUP, follow these steps:
- Log into https://microsofthup.com.
- Click Order History.
- Enter the email address that you use to buy Office. You will receive an email containing the link.
- Click the link in the email.
- Click on the order number to display the key.
- If you purchased software from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:
Check your Microsoft Office account. If you installed Office before and used a product key, you'll need to find the key in your account info:- Access https://stores.office.com/myaccount.
- Sign in to your account.
- Click Install from a disc (Install from disc).
- Click I have a disc (I have the disc).
- Click View your product key (See product key).
Contact Microsoft Support support. If the other steps don't work and you have proof of purchase, try contacting Microsoft. Access https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus and click Get Started (Begin). advertisement
Method 2 of 2: Microsoft Office 2010 or 2007
- Check email receipt. If you bought Office from an online store and downloaded it to your computer, you can find the full 25-character of your product key in your receipt email.
- Check with online store. If you downloaded the office suite and you don't see a receipt, you can still find your product key by logging into your store account.
- If you purchased the suite from Digital River, you can get the code by visiting their support page and choosing How do I get my serial number or unlock code? (How do I get my serial number or unlock code?). Simply follow the on-screen instructions to get the code.
- If you bought from the Microsoft Store, follow these steps:
- Login to your account at https://www.microsoftstore.com.
- Click Order History.
- Click an order.
- Click Install Office.
- Click Hi. Let's get your Office to display the key.
- Check product packaging. If you bought an Office disc with a box, the product key is usually on the packaging. If you can't find it, see the instructions on the box to look up your product key online.
- If the version of Office that came with a product key with a PIN, you need to access https://office.com/getkey and enter 27 numeric characters on the card.
- Check the hologram sticker on the computer. If your computer was installed and pre-registered with Office when you bought it, the product key might be on a hologram sticker somewhere on the device.
- Use LicenseCrawler (PC only). If the other steps don't work, you can use LicenseCrawler (or some free key lookup app) to decrypt the key. Here's how to proceed:
- Go to http://www.klinzmann.name/licensecrawler.htm and click Download.
- Click one of the links below the ″ Portable-Version ″ (Portable version) heading.
- Follow the onscreen instructions to download the .zip file.
- Extract the file. The folder containing the application will be created. You don't need to launch any kind of installer since it's portable.
- Open a new folder and double-click LicenseCrawler.exe.
- Click Search (remember to close any pop-up ads if available). The application will scan your registry.
- Scroll down and find a line that begins with one of the following text strings:
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Office 14.0 (Office 2010)
- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE Software Microsoft Office 12.0 (Office 2007)
- Find the following product key from ″ Serial Number ″. These are 25 characters grouped into 5 sets of letters and numbers.
- Contact Microsoft Support. If the other steps don't work and you have proof of purchase, try contacting Microsoft. Access https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus and click Get Started. advertisement
